There is no evidence that Thimerosal in quantities used as preservative in vaccines or other products is harmful There is no evidence that it is not harmful. In fact I would suggest that you read the report put out by the IOM entitled "Immunization Safety Review: Thimerosal - Containing Vaccines and Neurodevelopmental Disorders" (2001) http://www.iom.edu/IOM/IOMHome.nsf/Pages/immunization+safety+reviewThe IOM conclusion in the report (p 85): "The committee concludes that although the hypothesis that exposure to thimerosal-containing vaccines could be associated with neurodevelopmental disorders is not established and rests on indirect and incomplete information, primarily from analogies with methylmercury and levels of maximum mercury exposure from vaccines given in children, the hypothesis is biologically plausible. The committee also concludes that the evidence is inadequate to accept or reject a causal relationship between thimerosal exposures from childhood vaccines and the neurodevelopmental disorders of autism, ADHD, and speech or language delay" (the italic emphasis is mine) This conclusion was spun to the press/general public by Dr. Marie McCormick of the IOM as:"Based on information from these sources, our study had come to the following conclusion. The hypothesis that thimerosal exposure through the recommended childhood immunization schedule causes neurodevelopmental disorders is not supported by clinical or experimental evidence.....However, there are some indirect associations concerning biological plausibility, which refers to a theoretical but unproven possibility."I love the spin "not supported" vs. actual conclusion of "evidence inadequate to accept or reject." It's not supported because the studies need to be done and are recommended to be done in the report. The whole report more supports the probability than refutes it. There are reports/studies out there that show a higher rate of autism vs exposure to mercury. There are also charts that show the causal relation of the rise in autism vs the increase in number of vaccines given.WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE REASEARCH THIS!!! If there's just a chance this is true, why take the risk with our children? The physician's oath is to "first do no harm". I guess the pharmaceutical's oath is "first make a big profit and cya"
