LOL! Yeah, people do look at you crazy when you do exercise outside. I get strange looks when I go to the store, or anywhere else in town because I have a sign on my Liberty for my personal training business and it has a girl in yoga meditation on it.

As for the heat, I saw this thing on tv last night that was an ice vest. Basically, you fill the various compartments on the vest with ice and wear it when you are doing exercise in extreme heat. Where on earth you would get one, I have no idea, but it is a great idea for summer workouts!

Great job on the workout by the way!

yowch, it's hot

It's 96 degrees. How's a girl going to do cardio in this without heat stroke? LOL So I settled for weights and yoga back to back with no rest for a total of 50 minutes. So far. When it cools off, we'll probably take for a walk and that'll be another 30 minutes or so but none of us needs to go walking right now. <wiping sweat off brow> I'll tell you something, though -- in spite of the heat or maybe because of it, I do love doing yoga in the summer. I take a blanket out under a tree or do it on my mat on the deck and it's so much nicer than doing it in the house (even if the next-door neighbor always looks at me as if I've joined a weird religious cult -- but she's only teasing).

I hear ya - it's hot here too! I was going to go for a walk and decided I didn't want to roast like a wienie. I haven't done anything but clean yet, but once dinner is done and cleaned up, I am going to do my new Method Pilates DVD I got at Ross the other day.

I don't think my neighbor would look at me quite so funny if I were doing pushups or something, but she clearly doesn't get yoga. LOL On the other hand, when I practice my flute outside (it's too hot to do anything in the house), she applauds even when I suck. So I forgive her for staring at my yoga poses. LOL

Ah. But not having a pool or a/c, my choices are heat stroke from exercising or sitting as still as possible and listening to myself sweat. LOL

girl get yourself to best buy for a window ac unit LOL. really whereever you workout just get $100 unit to make it cool enough in your room. i don't know how big or small your rooms are but a small unit makes a difference even if you only use when working out. kassiaBill and <modgirlreporter@...> wrote: Ah. We've got a window unit we put in the bedroom about two days a year when it's simply too hot to sleep otherwise, but the bedroom is too small and crowded to do any exercising in there and at this point, the little a/c unit we have is still stored in the basement. The rest of our house is one big room -- seriously, we knocked out walls to make it that way so the wood stove will heat the place efficiently. It wouldn't be worth the trouble to buy a window unit big enough for the rest of the place just to exercise because we wouldn't use it otherwise. We like open windows. And the teensy power bill. LOL Maybe I should join the Y so I could swim in their pool. Or learn to be a wee-hours-of-the-morning person and do my cardio at 5 a.m. when it's relatively cool.

hehe...Why don't you invite her over to workout with you? Teach her about yoga and maybe she won't stare trying to figure it out.

,

Do you have a fan? If not, grab one to use during exercise. I have ac but I still bought a fan to have going in my exercise room when I'm working out because it seems to be the hottest room in the house. That's probably because it is over the garage, which is un-air conditioned, but it gets hot. I've found that the fan blowing on me when I'm working out is nice but not too much that I don't feel the workout either.

Oh, we've got fans all over the house! LOL We'd suffocate without them these last few days. I generally prefer to do my workouts outdoors this time of year, because I prefer to do almost everything outdoors this time of year. Yesterday, for example, we spent practically the whole day on the deck -- it's our living room in the summer. I get SO tired of being stuck inside all winter. Yesterday it was 94, I think, and I rode my husband's old Schwinn all over our neighborhood for exercise. I have a five-speed bicycle of my own, but his is a 1960's-era bike with a foot brake and much more pleasant to ride. Besides, without all those speeds you HAVE to pedal hard and can't cheat by shifting down into easy mode on the hills. LOL

And I took your advice to heart and went grocery shopping yesterday and bought scads of veggies and fruit and yogurt and turkey sandwich meat and orange juice. I told my mom, who also has a tummy pooch, that we don't eat enough or often enough and she's going to try it, too.

She's an older lady whose most strenuous activity is watering her flowers in the evenings. I can't see her being able to do yoga. LOL

I teach a room full of 55 to 85 year olds every Monday and Wednesday. You have to start light, with seated poses and only like 15 minutes at a time, but there is no limit on the age of yogi's. :)

Proof: Yogi Berra turned 81 on May 12, and he's still going strong. To paraphrase one of his famous quotes (yeah, I think it was about yoga, yeah), "Yoga is 90% mental, and the other half is physical."

Oh, absolutely you can do yoga no matter your age. I intend to keep doing it as long as I can and part of the reason for doing it to start with is to maintain flexibility as I get older. But this neighbor of mine -- and a dear sweet lady she is -- has probably never exercised for years and wouldn't be flattered should I suggest she join me.

LMAO!!! Carl, you are so adorable! I would have never made that connection because I'm just not clever that way. But it is true...he was an athlete and the exercise has helped him to maintain a long active life.

Again, you just described half my classes! I understand about the being offended if asked though. That's why I never ask anyone to come workout with me. I ask them to come keep me company while I workout. They come thinking they are just going to sit and talk to me while I suffer through the exercise, but by the time I'm through, they are trying something, even if it is only one exercise. One exercise progresses to two, then three, and eventually the whole workout and they are hooked. And even if she doesn't try it and get hooked on it, you can explain to her what you are doing so she will at least gain some knowledge and not stare. But seriously, that's just me, I try to get everyone hooked on exercise and think everyone else should do the same. Enjoy your workouts and at the very least make faces at her so that she has something to stare at...LOL
