I have often thought about getting a jump rope, sounds fun and the calorie burn is great!!

And I'm not that sore today after all. I'm pleased about that. My legs are stronger than I gave them credit for. Remember those jumping rope toys that have a loop on one end and a weighted ball on the other, and you put the loop on one ankle and then swing it in a circle and jump over the ball with your free foot? I saw a kid playing with one yesterday and I thought, now that looks like fun and good exercise too, so I'm going to look for one today for me.

hi valerie! wow, im still impressed, a whole day later, about the

calorie burn that you got in a mere 15 mins while jumping rope! how

very kewl! i see this toy (that you mention above) in all of the

stores around here.... it should not be hard for you to find one for

yourself. i had one as a girl and loved it! we didnt stay in one

place with it though... we used to skip down the street all of the

way to school with those things... so much fun :)

Carolyn,

I think I'm going to try jumping rope...just bought the RopeSport

jumprope that came with an instructional dvd and cd (music to jump

with). Thought it would be a good workout to try and I could do it to

music I liked, inside or out...

I bought a Skip It today (that's the thing with the loop on one end and a weighted ball on the other) and gave my husband much enjoyment as he watched me try to remember how to do it. LOL However, I did figure it out at last and while I will have some bruises on my shins for a while until I get good at it again, it's a lot more interesting than regular rope jumping and has the same cardio effect as rope jumping. The only drawback is you don't get the arm work in, too.

hi stacey! i cant remember if it is the 'ropesport' workout(s) or

not, but in one they do some amazing tricks. maybe it was micheal

olajide? (sp?) he seems to like his rope alot. also dont forget

about his 'aerobox' video that he did with kathy smith... there is a

whole jump rope segment on it, and it is coming out on dvd this

summer :)

actually i have had a really nice jumprope for years, but have never

used it because it would aggravate my stupid asthma. i might be able

to do it for a little while now though. i simulate jump roping on

the rebounder :)

I just decided that since it's summer, it's hot in the house (outside, too, LOL) that it was high time to regress to age 10 and go outside and play. You know when we were kids and playing outside all the time and riding our bikes and jumping rope and playing tag we didn't have to wonder if we'd gotten enough exercise. So much for videos for a couple of months -- I'm going to do stuff like this instead. I have a lovely bruise on my knee, too. LOL And if I thought my legs were sore today ... I probably shoulda taken a day off but I wanted to play with my new toy. <G> Anyone know where I can find a grown-up pogo stick? Without breaking the bank?

What a great workout idea! Now I have to find my jumpropes. I know they were moved, but the kids packed them so they are still in the stoage shed somewhere waiting to be unpacked.

Today it's cloudy and cooler so I could actually do some cardio without risking heat stroke. We don't have air conditioning. The thread about jump ropes made me dig mine out and I jumped 500 times (with breaks of a minute or two in between each 100) and my online calculator said that was 337 calories. Whoo-hoo! Wish I could do that every day. I alternated between jumping with both feet at once and using each foot individually.

I've seen them at Wal-Mart. They are plastic there, but I'd prefer an actual rope one so I could get my foot through the ring. I'm afraid I'd get my foot stuck trying to put the darn thing on. Let me know if you find one with a big enough ring for an adult foot.

My legs are STILL sore. LOL When that goes away I'm going to do it again, though. Obviously my calves haven't been getting worked enough.

I bought a Skip It, which is just the kids' toy with the plastic loop and the plastic rope and I don't have any trouble with it -- and I wear a size 9 shoe. It took some doing to remember how to do it and I've got a lovely bruise as a result, but once you get back onto the technique, it's great.

,

Sounds like so much fun! How well does it work for getting both legs? Do you have to change legs half way through to get the same benefits to both legs or are you able to jump with the leg in the circle too? I've gotta go to Wal-Mart and get me one!

Okay, I'll add calf raises to my leg workout today and try to get them ready for when I find my jumprope! LOL

Oh, good. I was afraid of getting that one and then having to break it to get my foot out. I have a small foot (size 6), but still, you never know when something is geared for kids if it will fit for adults. Glad to know...now I'll definitely have to get one.

Tonya,

Yes, you have to jump with the other leg, too, in order to keep the thing twirling around. It's just like skipping rope. Actually, you end up kind of jogging in place. LOL
