Guest guest
Hi there, here I agree with your comments about EMG being painful. I didn't know what to expect from it, though my neurologist did warn me it would be uncomfortable. It was just like being shocked. My neurologist seemed sensitive to the pain he was causing me so he only tested a few fingers on one hand and and a few toes on one foot. I was very curious about the test,so I was focusing on what he was doing with the computer recording the graph results he was getting, so this helped distract me. Afterwards the diagnosis of CMT was more of a shock to me!!! I did have a very bad time sleeping that night as my legs were twitching and restless all night. Guest guest
Theresa, I found the EMG and NCV tests to be very, very painful. My dr. did warm up my hands and feet, etc., but it was still pretty awful. I guess the good news is that when the test is over, so is the pain, etc. and it is a very helpful tool. I have read (after having my tests, of course) that sometimes people are given a sedative or pain reliever first and that helps without affecting the outcome of the tests. Good luck! For me, it was just kind of, grit your teeth and bear it and hope to not have to have another one. Other people have said it is not painful at all, though, so maybe you will be lucky.
