We have had a few other members use the hanger helmet, I hope they'll repsond to you. Guest guest Posted June 26, 2002 Report Share Posted June 26, 2002 Hi Anastasia, I too live on Long Island. Where are you located? I did research Hanger before I decided what company to use. I decided to go with the DOC band because from what I understand, Hanger makes a passive helmet. I felt my daughter needed an active band at her age. (11 mths on the 27) A passive helmet sits on the head and when the head grows it will eventually grow into the shape of the helmet=round. An active band redirects the growth of the head by applying gentle pressure. How old is your son? I would think it would take longer to see results with a passive helmet. Is your orthotist experienced? From what I understand,that makes a world of difference. Please keep us posted. > HELP! Since it is of a passive design, correction may come at a slower rate than if her were wearing an active band. He's only been wearing it for a week but I'm not sure if I should have went w/ an active rather that a passive type band. How was your treatment? I don't know much about the Star band. I'm not sure about the band fit, we didn't have any " digging " problems, best to discuss with your ortho. Is there no one else that can advise you over the phone at the clinic? Hopefully pushing the helmet off was a one time thing. Our son never did with his first band but did with his 2nd. I tried to not make a big deal out of it, just would nonchalantly put it back on. Guest guest Posted November 23, 2003 Report Share Posted November 23, 2003 Sohnia, I hadn't heard that the outside of the band needs to be cleaned with alcohol. I would think that the alcohol would take the stickers right off, but I don't know. Usually I just wipe down the outside with a damp cloth if Jordyn gets food on it or something. As for the swollen eye, we had this problem with Jordyn in the beginning. When she decided that sleeping flat on her face was a good idea, she woke up the next morning with the tissue around one eye very swollen. It went away once she was up and moving around, but it did scare me a bit. CT said this is quite common when the baby sleeps on it at a strange angle, but if you have swelling beyond that type of situation, it sounds like she could use an adjustment. We haven't had any issues with Jordyn trying to take her band off, but I've heard that putting a barrett over the velcro will keep it on pretty well.
