Guest guest
Kerri, When I first took my son to CT at 3 months old- they sent me home to reposition for a month to exhaust that route. I have just read a post that says CT told them its really not that bad and the decision was left up to the parents. I feel that in my experience we were given truthful information and they did not try to sell their product to me the first chance they got, which can certainly be a question when this is all so very new. But, the asymmetry and flatness speaks for itself really, if you know in your heart that something is awry, than CT is only confirming your suspicions because most people have reasons to check into the helmeting in the first place. I do know that my peds thought he was mild, and CT thought he was moderate to severe. I leaned on the side of CT- they scrutinized my son's head shape and facial asymmetry whereas the Doc barely had a glance and summed it up to my overreacting basically. I hope this helps some! Guest guest
Thanks to all who responded. I do feel that we are going to receive good care with CT...I was just curious if anyone had ever been told they didn't need a band. It's reassuring to know that it has happened. It sounds like CT is definitely concerned with the well being of the kids and not just making a buck. I think we're in the right place. ) Kerri
Guest guest
As you know, we just had 's consultation at CT...they are documenting her as " severe " and definitely think she could benefit from a band. My question lies in the fact that they are the manufacturer of the DOC Band. We worry a little that perhaps they are indeed " selling their product. " Has anyone here been evaluated by them and been told a band is not necessary? I'm just a bit skeptical considering this is a $3000 venture we're getting into. Do you think they would tell us she needs one just to get another band made or would they be honest and tell us the truth if they really felt she didn't need one? Guest guest
Kerri, I have never been to a CT clinic, so I can't give you my own personal experience. However, there have been quite a few members who have said that CT recommends that their child NOT get a band. Yes, the bands are CT's bread and butter, but from what I have heard countless times, the child's best interest always comes first. I'm sure you will hear from quite a few members about this. Guest guest
Kerri, My twins wore DOC bands for 6 and 7 weeks. Sara got perfect correction, but Sam grew out of his band too fast. I think he really could have had more correction, but the folks at CT didn't think he needed another one, and neither did our craniofacial doc. I was ready to sell furniture to pay for another band, but I'm the only one who thinks he needs one. So I don't think they would try to " sell " a band, especially if is severe. If she was mild and they were pushing a band, then I would maybe wonder, but that doesn't happen. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Kerri, There have been lots of folks on these plagio boards who have been told by CT to try repositioning first or flat out that there child doesn't need a band. The orthotist that is treating Grant has told me he has turned people away because their child's head is so very mild. Our orthotist is a great representative of CT...he genuinely LOVES kids...he knows that wearing the band is certainly not fun for these kids in the heat and that it takes a big commitment on the parents' part...my feeling on it is that plagio is epidemic...they have more than enough business...and it seems this company's priority is helping children (of course they are a BUSINESS, so they have to charge for it...but I think their mission is clear). Honestly, maybe it's my background in commercial banking (I had several manufacturers as clients) but, I know that it cannot be cheap to create custom bands for every child (ever notice all the shapes and sizes these things come in? they are custom on both the INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE)...you wouldn't believe the expense involved in custom molding for manufacturing. I think about how much my customers would have to pay to get a custom mold designed to create a plastic clip. I am amazed that CT can turn these DOC bands out in 2 weeks or less (Grant got his in 10 days!) Plus, all of the appointments/adjustments are included in the price. Sorry to ramble on and on...I understand you considering CT's motive in your decision, but I just wanted to share my perspective as a parent who is utilizing the DOCband. (((((((((hugs))))))))))))) and best of luck in your decision! , Mom to Grant (born 9/26/01) ...in DOCband since 6/14/
Guest guest
Kerri, We had a post just today or yesterday where someone went to CT and was told that the plagio was mild/moderate and that banding would be up to them. They would neither recommend or discourage. I have heard of this happening in regards to CT on many, many occassions. It has been my experience in my 1.5 years with this group that CT has a great deal of integrity. Marci(Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi, My daughter has a DOC band and was evaluated by a neurosurgeon as moderate. He left it up to us weather we wanted the prescription or not and told us we could decide with CT weather she should be banded. My experience with CT here in Burbank, CA for the past 2 mo's has been outstanding and they seem to have alot of integrity. In fact, when I called them for the first time after getting my DOC band prescription from the neuro, I explained that she was diagnosed as moderate and she said that , the orthotist will do another evaluation and that if he felt she didn't need the band he would tell us. She said that there have been babies that has evaluated and advised the parents that the plagio wasn't severe enough to band. diagnosed my daughter as moderate and we both agreed that she could benefit from the band. One week after my daughter had the band I could see a difference and I haven't regreted getting the band for one second. Good luck and I hope the CT office staff in Chicago is as wonderful and knowledgeable as the office staff in Burbank. , 's mom Southern California --- Baracus4@... wrote: > As you know, we just had 's consultation at > CT...they are documenting her as " severe " and > definitely think she could benefit from a band. > > My question lies in the fact that they are the > manufacturer of the DOC Band.
