Guest guest
" Someone once said that it smells like strawberries. Having read that, I gave it another whiff and thought it was rather like strawberry candy. -Xplo " I will need to smell it again, Xplo - and try to find the strawberries there! I can imagine it will go very well with citruses and florals. I know Ormonde Jayne's Osmanthus (which does not smell like the flower at all to my nose) has davana in the top notes. I don't get the strawberry candy though, it reminds me more of concord grape juice! I bet it will go well with cassis and yuzu. -- Ayala Sender Perfumer & Owner Ayala Moriel Parfums http://www.AyalaMoriel.com E-mail: Ayala@... I just got some davana and smelled it for the first time tonight. It's quite unique! I can see how it would add an interesting, nearly mystical note to blends of many types: fruity or citrusy, green, or maybe even a woody, rooty blend or floral blend. Part of it early on smells a bit like cistus labdanum to me; later on I got a hint of a slightly fruity note between strawberries and grape juice; I got the undertones of hay and rootiness that someone mentioned (kind of like a much smoother, fruity- floral vetiver); and the last stage smells a bit like black tea to me. It'll be interesting to see how it modifies a blend, though right now I don't think I'll be using it nearly as much as other oils.

I have to get some black currrent bud, not that I want to smell rank underarm but I have a feeling that there is something about it that I will love. The agarwood, smelly socks, I can relate to that. You are wondering where you are going with the blend? Sounds like a Sunday morning in an Irish pub! (although since they banned smoking from pubs in Ireland, those days are a thing of the past. It really depends on what I am blending it with. The unpredictability of it is fun for me. It is VERY sweet - too sweet for me in general but I have noticed my daughter and her friends love just about anything I create with it. It is a bit like really strong gum scent - the kind that kids chew and you can just smell it so sticky sweet in the air that it is almost attacking. Often I have to ask the kids to get rid of the gum or it makes me sick. That is what Davana is like for me. However at times it has made a blend just perfect too. I think that is why I do like Davana - it reminds me of myself - at time you can love me and at other times you can hate me. LOL (goofy mood today and not enough coffee yet) Azzrian

Whenever I want a really fruity scent for a blend, I rely on Davana to provide it. It reminds me of plums, fresh melons, and strawberries.> I wish it smelled that way to me. Sounds lovely. <I find Black Current Bud to smell like rank underarm.> I can see that too. <Today, I received some Agarwood and it smells like dirty socks to me. I know it isn't my supplier, it's just me.> Thats so funny, because I recieved a sample of agarwood too and while it doesn't remind me of dirty socks per se, I does remind me of the woody, earthy notes present within the scent of valerian, which has a primary smell of B.O.. I don't get the funky note in the agarwood, just the same woody notes that valerian has. It kind of turned me off of agarwood, ironically, because the woody, earthy notes in valerian were the only things I liked about the smell of valerian(and I also get a berry-like note from it sometimes too). <So, I decided to make a blend out of rank underarm, smelly socks, vomit, and hyrax poop, just for fun. Wonder what I'll get. Perhaps I should add some alcohol and tobacco and maybe a little smoke from Choya. Anyone know where I'm going with this... could be to a divorce lawyer. But alas, my husband's a gem, and I'm just making perfume.> Very funny. Sounds delicious, really, it does! (kidding). I mentioned a similar blend before in a post about davana and I would call it Dive Bar. --------------------------------- Need Mail bonding? Go to the Q & A for great tips from Answers users.
