Guest guest
Hi BJ, I think what we did different is that I requested a one on one aid to work with Collin. They have made him a schedule of when things need to be done and he also gets computer time. We also tell him that if he has an " Excellent Week " that he will get $5.00 at the end of the week. Sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't. Jeanette > Hi, > Just wondering if there is anything that you did or school did to help your son do better these past 2 weeks. Maybe something is going on and you accidentally have discovered a key to helping his behaviors? That is what is great about having a functional behavioral assessment...some of the " why " part is discovered. I know that my daughter goes up and down...seems cyclic. Thankfully, we are on a positive mode for the past 3 weeks. Wonder if it has to do with the sunny weather...today it rained, and she seemed more " blue " . Anyway...good luck! > Bj > Something I posted in some other lists > > > I had posted this a couple of weeks ago in some other lists that I am > in. Guest guest
Jeanette, just a suggestion, maybe a daily reward would be better than a weekly? That way each day he could earn something. I found my son did better getting $1 each school day than money at the end of the week because it reminded him daily to be good, the more good days, the more $$$...:)just a thought..Sally
Guest guest
Hi Jeanette, It sounds like you are doing some good things. A one on one aide is really beneficial in some cases. My daughter has used one since we started her in public school. She wouldn't have been able to be fully included had we not requested one. Now that there has been a couple years of trials and successes, we are trying to have the aide back off a little, and trying to jumpstart some independence/self control without our daughter being so closely supervised. Scheduling is also a great idea...we all do it ourselves, so I suppose that is why it works so well with our kids. Providing a visual schedule is not much different than our adult "day planners", or even sticky notes. I found that even writing a simple schedule on an index card, and reading it to my daughter helps her know what to expect. (She doesn't read independently yet, but likes to see the "written word".) Rewards are also a great thing to offer even though sometimes it's hard trying to find the right reward. Sometimes I think we forget that our kids are "people" too. They have need for communication, support, and definitely a "pat on the back" so to speak. We all need that once in a while. So here is yours...You are doing a GREAT JOB! Sometimes just getting through to the next day is success in itself. Hang in there!
