We tried the DMG with Karac; didn't notice anything. The only problem we had with the Risperdal was the 30 lbs weight gain!! Pat K

That's amazing that JJ didn't gain weight on the Risperdal. If Karac hadn't gained weight he would still be on. I loved how it seemed to level out his moods. Are you sure that it is the Risperdal that is causing him to be silly? Pat K

JJ has been taking resperdal for 2 years and he just turned 16 and weighs 103 pounds! Its the sillinest after taking it that I am concerned about. Lois

Hi! No- But it seems when I give it to him about a half-hour later he is very silly. JJ eats like a horse but is very active so I guess thats why he is thin. Lois

Lois, what does your doctor say. Does the dosage maybe need to be changed? Risperdal effects the Seratonin which is a source of pleasure maybe that is where it is coming. Did it just start? At least silly is better than depressed! LOL, Pat K

Well now we are going thru anxiety again and the teacher said he threw a chair today!!!! He NEVER has thrown a chair! I called the Dr. and she said instead of giving J resperdal 2 times aday to raise it to 3!!!!!!!!!!! Man-I don;t want to have to do that. I think it would be to much. What do you all think? Lois

Hi Lois,

My son was on resperdol for some time. He has some very

agressive behaviors. Unfourtunately, the drug did not cut it for

because he gained tremendous amounts of weight on it. He is no

longer taking any medications at this time. But I wanted to tell you

that our neurologist also increased his dose a few times before we

finally stopped the medication and tried something new. Sometimes it

is a matter of trial and error with the different meds. If you trust

your doctor, I would not worry too much about the increase. But do be

careful to watch for the side effects of the medication. I also have

worked with other children who have been on this drug, and not

always, but in many cases resperdol does cause dramatic weight gain.

not take long before the dose was at the highest the doctor would

allow, and it no longer had any positive effect on him. His behaviors

began to increase and the weight kept creeping up on him. We are

still battling the weight and has been off all meds for

several months now. This is NOT the case with all children. The

be to give it a fair shot, but ALWAYS stay on top of things as best

always demand answers in terms you are able to understand.

I tried the DMG with Evan also and also never noticed anything. Evan and are on the Risperdal and they both are too active to gain any weight.

Lois, how many mg's of Risperdal is JJ on? It sounds like the testosterone is really coming in; isn't it? What kind of behavior management program do they have at school? What provoked the chair throwing? Would it be better to try a behavior management program before increasing the medication? Keep us informed about what works. years. he just turned 16 and only weighs 106 pounds.

How has your son's behaviours been since he hasen't been on any meds?

JJ is at a school called "Job Devolpment" Its a school to get them ready for when they get out to get a job. I don't think J is use to this kind of school and its causeing him anxiety.

J takes 0.5mg or resperdal 2 times a day (Once in the morning and then at night).

Yes, I think hormones are real bad for him. I am going to get his blood tested next week for STEP (for PANDAS) and mercuy and hormones. What a mess! Lois

I do not think it would hurt him. Evan was taking his 3 times a day until the Abilify. Now it is 'as needed' and it seems that he has been needed it again. 's pdoc did not want to give him the Risperdal 3 times a day but she changed his p.m. dose to one at school and forgot later that he was not taking it before bed. I have to call her again tonight because I was gone when she called last night and forgot about him taking it at school. I wanted to know if he should change his Stattera to a.m. since he was waking up in the middle of the night since taking it and if he should go back on Conidine which was stopped when he started the Risperdal. I am glad I keep a med journal for all the kids since the doctors forget what they do with so many patients and they do not go flipping back through their files to check these things out.

Yes it is! It has a web site but it is down tempraly. I will e-mail it when it gets up again. There are about 50 kids that go there with different issues.....autism,down syndome,MR etc...... Lois
