French Parma Violet Flower Absolute

I understand that Violet Flower Absolute is no longer produced.

What a shame since the fragrance of the living flowers (which I grow)

is so delicious, not to mention its historic importance in natural

perfumery. I have an idea for those who have a serious interest in

it. When I first purchased my Parma Violets, I contacted a Parma

Violet expert to learn about its ideal growing conditions, etc. Her

name is Nathalie Casbas and she lives in Toulouse, France. She is

involved, somehow, with the large-scale growing of the Parma Violet

variety " Violette de Toulouse " centered there in Toulouse, France.

Moreover, she herself has developed new strains of Parmas as well as

authored a book (in French) " Une Pensee pour la Violette " . Someone

from the group could contact her to see if the violet growers there

would be interested in producing some flower (and leaf) absolute. I

know this sounds a bit far-fetched, but isn't it worth a shot? If

she and the Parma growers were convinced that there is a market out

there for it, who knows what it could lead to ---the rebirth of

Violet Flower Absolute? I believe it is worth a try.

You can contact Nathalie at her email address: n.casbas@...

She is extremely nice and was very helpful to me. Unfortunately,

Nathalie's English is a little broken. If someone in the group is

fluent in French, it probably would be best for them to be the

contact.

Hi ,

I doubt it would be cost effective.

My supplier in France carries Violette absolute imported from where

else than Egypt.

Wouldn't that be glorious? Can I play Devil's Advocate, however? It is so

labor intensive, and requires so much land, i don't know if it could be

accomplished with today's market and employment resources. There is a

lovely picture in Poucher's book of many heaps of violet flowers awaiting

processing in a plant, perhaps in the early 1900s. I can only imagine how

many people it took, bent over (backbreaking work) to harvest those flowers.

Or, we could have a contest, a round-robin sniffing evaluation of anyone

who wanted to play with Ayala's recommendations on absolutes and EOs that

can be blended into a violet flower accord. It's in the Files section.

I think they are selling violet *leaf* abs.

They are, for sure.

If you dilute violet leaf abs down to 1%, some of the floral note comes

through -- according to Arctander, I believe. Have to look up the ref.
