Guest guest Posted May 21, 2003 Report Share Posted May 21, 2003 His behavior has improved a whole lot but he still wants to run and we had to install an alarm on the front door. He took off after he saw that had come through the front door and not only forgot to lock it but left it wide open also. He was probably gone 15 minutes before we realized it and another 30 minutes while his mom and stepdad each took a car to look for him and there was at least 2 patrol cars looking for him. I am wondering if there is going to be anything to stop that behavior. The screaming has stopped except when he is hungry or sleepy. We are slowly cutting down the Risperdal also. Oh, and on a side note he is not eating as much as he had been. I would say that he is about normal for a boy his age. He was eating almost 6 meals a day and snacks and now it is 3 meals with snacks. If Medi-Cal ever approves it, I hope to get on it. Just as I thought he was going to stabilize on the Tegretol increase he has been coming home and raging over everything. I hate to say this but I am about ready to think that any steps we get with Evan are going to be small steps but we will keep working on those small steps. Karac has done that in the past; we always know that he is heading to the park. I think Karac is doing well on the Abilify, but his mother is still having a problem getting him to sleep through the night; so she is adding another medication of who knows what! He sleeps through the night great for me, but I don't have a bunch of kids up making a lot of noise. I feel like I would make a lot of progress with Karac if I didn't ever have to take him home, but like you, I am thankful for any progress that I make. He has run by the park a few times but he is not interested in the park; The police checked all the spots that they knew he had been to before and did not find him. drove in the direction that she had taken him on a walk and finally found him. She was so afraid that he might have gotten into someone's motor home or camper that they might have left unlocked. I have been having to give Evan some of his Kirkman's melatonin on most nights so he will go to sleep early and not stay up too late. His siblings do not bother him too much when it is time for him to go to sleep. He just goes to bed and pulls the blanket up over his head or pulls a pillow over his head. Last night he did get up during the night for awhile so I just reset the alarm clock and took him myself. He scared me half out of what wits I have when I heard the back door opening as I am driving 65 mph down the freeway. I pulled over to the side and made sure that it was fastened tight and then locked the doors. I should automatically lock them any time that he is in the car but I do not always think. One of these days we will have to look for a car that has back doors we can lock from the front. One lady told me of a father who had a 4-door car and welded the back two doors shut and made his sons climb over the front seats. I think they are both autistic and were always opening the doors. Right now, all the ones that we have are running good and I have the credit cards 'almost' paid off that I used for them so I do not want to buy one unless it gets more serious than it is now. So far he has not figured out about the lock button in the back. It has only been a few months that he realized he could raise and lower the windows with the buttons. Part of me is sad that a child his age does not do those simple things but with the other problems he has I guess it is a safety feature that God built into him for the time being. We will check the manual and see what it says. I really wanted a two door but my husband wanted a 4 door due to the fact that they are more convenient and larger. Me, I am thinking about kids who will open the door before the car even stops--namely . So it is not just for Evan that this would be better.
