Wild smelling billygoat hair arrived!

The stinky, musky goat hair has found its way into my mailbox, reeking

beyond the confines of the plastic bag and paper and envelope, lol. For

those new to the group, we had a discussion a month or so ago, after a

recommendation by a group member, that the hair from around the scent

glands of a billygoat in heat can substitute for musk or other fixatives in

perfumery. Since we are always looking for good fixatives, and we don't use

musk because of the cruelty to the animal, I asked if someone could send me

some snipped hairs, and she did. If she wants to " out " herself as the

source, she can do it, I don't want to, in case she gets swamped with

requests, and winds up with a bald-headed goat. ;-)

My cats aren't too interested in it, except for Pokey, the most feral one.

He had quite a time sniffing the baggie. I took a pic of the hair (it's

pretty) and put it in the photo section. I put the hair in vodka to

tinture, figuring the water content won't ruin a blend when I experiment,

since I won't have to use more than a drop or two. Phew!

Of course, I didn't have the lid tightly on the jar when I gave it the

first shake, and I now have to change my dress. Phew again! Just handling

the stuff for five seconds leaves the hands reeking, even after a scrub.

Ok, signing off to go change clothes.

What we do for our art. Hey, stop laughing!
