I knew MAOI's shouldn't be taken with SSRI's like prosac, but I thought

Trytophan, etc. were OK. I guess I had it wrong; I am glad I asked. Thank

you!

,

Melatonin is closely related to the neurotransmitter serotonin and so I

think the concern is that it may increase serotonin levels. MAOI's should

not be taken with drugs that increase serotonin levels.

I don't think you had it wrong, necessarily. If I am correct in my

interpretation of the warning then I also think the warning is overly

cautious. Personally I would not be afraid to take melatonin with a MAOI.

hey, I don't understand: i take melatonin at night with a substance

called 5-htp (l-5 hydroxytryptophan). I thought that serotonin and

melatonin were both good for accomplishing that deep, dreamy sleep

wherein hgh gets released. Am I wrong about that?

No I think you're right. You're not taking a MAOI, but even if you were I

think the risks are minimal. See my last note to .

Has anyone here had problems with combining melatonin and alcohol? Someone

mentioned to me in email that she had a bad reaction to the combination.
