I must say that I do it for looks and health. More so health, diabetes is a disease that 90% of my family have died from. I also have a thyroid and ovarian cyst problem so I am fighting against that too.

I workout for so many reasons. Probably the Number one reason, would

be my vanity... I like the way I look when I'm fit as can be :)

Second reason would just be the way it makes me feel...(in shape), and

then the third reason would be for the long-term health benefits, I

suppose. Great questions Sandi!

My primary reason to workout is to combat

depression. Secondary, I workout to be fit enough to do my daily schedule. I

could care less about appearance I just want to be strong enough to do all that

needs to be done daily with my kids. I also workout to relieve stress and have

some focus on Me time.

I workout to burn fat and feel good. I also love the endorphins effect, great feeling. I also do it for later on in life. I see so many old women and not able to walk...though it's down the road, I want to keep going years down the road and when I'm a senior citizen, I want to STILL be going and I think exercising is what will keep me going through out my entire life.

I workout mainly to feel better about myself physically and emotionally. Those endorphins are a great by product of exercise. I also do it for my health because my Dad's side of the family has bad hearts and cancer and my Mom's has diabetes, high blood pressure and Parkinson's Disease.

I exercise for so many different reasons. 1) I want that muscle tone

I had back in high school, when I used to lift weights daily and

because I was cheerleading. Figure was very important then and I

never realized, until now, how my body was. 2) Having three kids is

a chore, so I need the strength to keep up with all of their needs.

So I must train my body, somehow, to be able to keep up with their

high energy. 3) To have the energy that I need to function properly

throughout the day. 4) To look like a hot mama:D, to know that my DH

is proud to have me by his side...so yeah to look great physically. 5)

For my health, I want to be around as long as possible, to see my kids

grow into mature adults.

Hi Sandi!

Wanted to welcome you to the group and answer your

question!

I workout for both health and appearance - though as I

get older health and just being fit and active in

general becomes more and more important to me, and

appearance less and less.

Did I see a post from you that you workout 28-30 hours

a week and that you get up at 3:00 a.m. to workout?

My hats off to you that is quite a schedule- I workout

anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes (I guess I average

about an hour) most days a week. I would like to be

more active in my " life " but I have a desk job 3 days

a week....the rest of the time I'm active w/ house

work and keeping up with my DD who has recenlty

discovered the joy of playgrounds...

Sorry to hear about your recent miscarriage, too.

As for me, I'm 38, one DD (age 2 1/2), a DH, a dog,

two cats and some fish! I'm a morning exerciser since

my DD was born - it is the only way I can assure

myself that it will get done. It can be a drag since

I'm not naturally a morning person -- but it works for

now.

my reasons:

- ive used exercise to help with hormonal depression (post-partum and

perimenopause... both at the same time! ugh!) and still use exercise

to feel good mentally

- ive also always wanted to lose fat/weight (ever since i had

children in my mid-late 30's.... i never had any weight issues at all

before that)

- now that im in menopause early (at age 42), i have to exercise to

keep my bones strong so that they can last me right to the end of my

life

- i also workout in order to make my lungs stronger (ive had asthma

since age 6)

my heart seems fine to me so i dont workout for it, specifically...

but of course it is always along for the ride :)

Great question, Sandi! One of my greatest influences in my life was my grandmother. She had her first heart attack at 44 years old and died from heart disease at 56 years old. So, I workout because I want to stay healthy and live a long life. The physical looks benefits are just a side effect! LOL

Thank You for that nice welcoming... yes I workout anywhere from 3+-5hours a day,I have been working out since age 14,I have always done more then the average person(yes even while preg.),I sleep 4-5 hours a day,I go to bed at 10pm wake up around 2:45 its called mommy time,my hubby respects my life style and works around it(he worksout out 30-60min. a day)I am a sahm he works for Disney. Yes I had a miscarriage at 11weeks in dec. 05,we are now ttc number 3(one more try at it),my other kids are 27mos./11mos.). the routine I do..... get up around 2:45am workout for my machines for 2hrs.(either elliptical/treadmill/bike)then do 15-30min. of a workout dvd,I do in the afternoon maybe 30-45min. of a machine(this is not always) and at night around 7:30 I do another 2hours(on a machine)then maybe 15-30 of a dvd(not always).....so thats my workout day....I sleep maybe 4-5hours max. Wow. And you don't get burnt out?? You workout with your bpm low I'm assuming while on machines? (Did I say that correctly?) What are your babies doing while working out? (other than sleeping for the first session?)

I would love to only need tht much sleep... Unfortunately, I need more.

---no I don't get burnt out..my motivation is great

my kids sleep from 7pm-6:30am(it will change I know so I will change

my times then) so I workout while they are alseep,if they wake up

then I add more exercise the next workout.
