I know about the Indian sources --- I've been searching for over a year. I probably just should have done a co-op or something, since the minimums are high. I did order from somaluna today, gotta replenish my stock quickly. I will check with the local store. I'm sampling some ambrette EO and abs soon, too. I have a little stash of abs, attar, and a lot of tincture. I can't find my infusion! I remember making some, just a little, and I misplaced it recently when I aded yet another cabinet. I hate it when just one little thing is missing! > Anya http://.com The premier site on the Web to discover the beauty of Natural Perfume " The Age of the Foodie is passé. I grow pikake and tincture it, yummy! Wait. I just went to their site. Maybe they're confused? I'll call or write them tomorrow. Pikake is J. sambac " Grand Duke of Tuscany " , AFAIK. They say they have J. sambac Star jasmine as pikake. Here's a pic from a nursery: http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Oleaceae/Jasminum_sambac.html They state kind of generally that sambac is used for pikake, indiscriminately. The Maid of Orleans is used in jasmine tea and rice. Various varieties have very different names in India, due to their different scents. Oops. Just did a little more research. UofH says there are two pikakes, single and double: http://www.botany.hawaii.edu/faculty/carr/page14.htm LOL. I just found another site that says GDoT is " triple pikake " . http://en.cn-flower.com/product/disp.php?pid=p4120750624b33 Anyeay, there's also a pic of me holding a flower of GDoT on .com on one of the pages that has my article on " evolution " on it. It has a fruity, much less indolic scent than most sambacs. There is quite a scent difference between the sambacs. GDoT has never been called Star jasmine. >bought Deertoungue and Tonka Beans from them and >quickly put them in 100 proof Vodka. They used to be used in food as a flavoring until this was discovered, and the FDA no longer allows them as GRAS. They are perfectly safe on the skin, *except* they cannot be used in lip balms. >Thanks so much fror the sharing >BB Thanks for the story of your sniff fun at Lhasa Karnac -- I remember that place from the 70s ;-) Anya http://.com The premier site on the Web to discover the beauty of Natural Perfume " The Age of the Foodie is passé. More than twice what I paid two years ago, but there really does seem to be a worldwide shortage. Or something. I'm going to see if they offer them ground. I've never tried to grind them, don't know how hard they are. Suppose I will, if I have to, of course. Thanks >again. I'll bet this company gets bewildered by the run on ambrette seeds ;-) >Anya http://.com Dear Anya, Just ordered an oz. Do you think it would be better in Everclear or Jojoba? I only use it as a fixative, a few drops at a time, otherwise it can be overwhelming, so a 1/2 ounce of material macerated in two different carriers is fine. Now, as far as percentage -- I would make it about a 30% dilution. Anya http://.com The premier site on the Web to discover the beauty of Natural Perfume " The Age of the Foodie is passé. Good now I can try it both ways. Yes I had thought from what I have read that I should grind it. It should be here today or tomorrow. Saw this last night, but couldn't keep my dish running to open the email. Lately I have been able to read some mail, if I'm lucky... To reply is a different story. Think I have to fix this computer. Will give a update on how it turns out. Thanks Again ;- )
