Black spots on broccoli sprout leaves?

Hi there,

I’m very new to sprouting. When I sprout broccoli in my Easy Sprouter, if I

rinse them every 8-12 hours as directed, the leaves get black spots on them.

The black spots cannot be rinsed away – they are part of the leaves. If I

ignore the rinse directions and rinse every 15 hours or even longer, the

leaves are perfect and there are no black spots. Does anyone know why this

is? And is it OK for me to lengthen the intervals between rinses? I am

draining well between rinses, by swinging the Easy Sprouter in a mesh bag

and using centrifugal force to get the excess water out.

Old seeds or mishandled seeds won't cause them to mold. The just won't

sprout properly. It is best to give your seed TLC always.

By " water thereafter " I am assuming you mean that you are rinsing

them. Are

you draining all the water back out each time? They should not sit in

water

after the initial soak. Try letting the jar sit upside down at an

angle

(propped up in a container, or the dish-drainer, or some such) so

that all

water will drain out.

If you are draining completely, then my next guess is that maybe the

seeds

are old, or got too hot, or damp from condensation (if you are

keeping them

where they are cold-fridge or freezer- and then letting them get too

warm

before putting them back into the cold- condensation can build up on

the

seeds.)

Hi, , I have been using the FreshLife for a couple of years. I

only rinse once a day. I unplug the machine, set the bowl aside, pour off

the water, rinse out the water resevoir, pull out the the tube rinse and

wipe it, squirt water down in the center hole, put back the tube, fill

the resevoir and set it in its place. Run water over the sprouts to rinse

them and put the machine back together and plug it in. Something that is

not in the instructions is that on about the second day when the roots

begin to show, leave off the lid and top tray. You want your seeds to get

light and to breath. Except for mung beans, fo light for them. You don't

want them to green up.The EasySprouter is rinsed twice a day. In the AM

right after breakfast and just before bedtime. So thats about 12 hours

apart. I think just swinging the sprouter around in circles inside of

your sink is good enough. Remember the EasySprouter has a little collar

on the top that holds the inner sleeve up so that it doesn't set down on

the bottom of the outer case. Because of that feature, it will continue

to drain if there is any water left.I keep reading about different

problems from people in this group and often I don't know what to say

because I've never had a lot of the problems.ew
