Might the surgeon be able to support their "lower" protein rationale? Question in a diplomatic & non-threatening way. Howabout to state the RDI as a minimum- for the larger males? There are many references to support that #, check the ASPEN web site (nutrition support focus), Shils & Shike, or even medlineplus.nih.gov. This happens as part of the body's response to sudden calorie and protein deprivation post-op. The body puts some of its normal maintenance activities on hold until nutrition is coming in again. The actual condition is called telogen effluvium. It is temporary, and the hair will grow back, provided protein and vitamin intake is adequate.Zinc and biotin supplements make a difference for some. Some swear by shampoos such as Nioxin or GNC's Hair, Skin, and Nails tablets.
