Guest guest
For severe deficiency in 8 years and older, 100,000 IU ORALLY daily for 3 days, followed by 50,000 IU ORALLY for 2 weeks. Follow up therapy, 10,000 to 20,000 IU daily for 2 months. Single oral doses over 25,000 can cause acute toxicity. Take in divided doses. Use caution in pregnancy (doses over 10000 IU not recommended). Zinc deficiency often accompanies Vit A deficiency. If someone has Vit A deficiency, I would also evaluate levels of other fat soluble vitamins. > > I too have a patient s/p gastric bypass surgery that c/o changes in > vision and when we checked her reoutine blood work we added on Vitamin > A and just got results back that she is vitamin deficient (Vit A 29). > > Does anyone know the typical recommendation for repletion?? do you use > pills or IM injection and how much??? > > thanks, > > Scheckner MS, RD, CNSD > Bariatric Nutrition Specialist > Montefiore Medical Center > Bronx, NY 10467 >
Guest guest
Do you recommend the dry form of A (due to possible malabsorption of gel/oil-based vites), and retinol vs. beta carotene? Also, I've read that zinc gluconate or zinc amino acid chelate are better absorbed in RNY pts than zinc oxide. Would you have any info on that? Thanks, Ava > > > > I too have a patient s/p gastric bypass surgery that c/o changes > in > > vision and when we checked her reoutine blood work we added on > Vitamin > > A and just got results back that she is vitamin deficient (Vit A > 29). > > > > Does anyone know the typical recommendation for repletion?? do you > use > > pills or IM injection and how much??? > > > > thanks, > > > > Scheckner MS, RD, CNSD > > Bariatric Nutrition Specialist > > Montefiore Medical Center > > Bronx, NY 10467 > > >
