Lorainne,

you said your cereal has a nutritional breakdown of " Total Fat 2g,

Total Carbs 22g, Sugars 1g, Protein 3g "

When following BFL the protiens and carbs should match, so the above

has 22g carbs, you would need to balance it with 22g of protien, so

19 more then it contains.

Processed cereals are poor choice for carbs, why noy have an apple?

I always grab a couple slices of turkey or something to make up for

the protein. This morning I had 2 hard boiled eggs (which are okay in

the EFL book) with 1 cup of the cereal with 1/2 cup skim milk. I

usually eat apples for my mid-day (along with a protein of some kind)

so I really don't want to do that for breakfast too.

Hi Lorainne,

Lets go over this with some numbers

If you have the Cereal/Milk/Turkey slice combo here is the breakdown

CEREAL 1CUP

100-120 cal (I'm not sure what the cal content is of your brand)

2g fat

22 g carbs

3g protien

SKIM MILK 0.5 CUP

43.3 cal

0g fat

6g carbs

4.2g protien

DELI TURKEY 2 SLICES

62 cals (But this depends on the brand)

1g fat

0g carbs

12.6 g protien

Altogether with this combo you are getting

200-250 cal

3g fat

28g carbs

20g protien

your ratios are 56% carbs, 39% protien and 6%fat, so you get a

56/39/6 ratio instead of the 40/40/20 split you are looking for.

There are too many carbs, split your cereal portion in half and it

should be OK.

Now for the Hard Boiled Egg combo

HB EGG 2

135 Cal

9.3g Fat

1g Carb

11.3g Protien

So using the numbers fron above for the milk and cereal you are

getting

235-265 cal

11.3g fat

29g carbs

18.5g protien

This combo ends up being 49% carbs, 31% protien and 19% fat, so a

49/31/19 ratio. Still too many carbs.

As for needing to balance your carbs, protiens and fats, yes it has

to be every meal including breakfast. I reccomend staying away from

the processed foods like deli meats and boxed cereals. Go for whole

foods like fruit and cottage cheese or tuna etc.

Good luck
