Need help with lab markup

We are ordering more lab tests again and need to use 3 different labs with different price lists.

We have struggled for years to price extras for patients.

Our primary job is a service (helping bodies to health).

When we add products, we can either sell them at cost like we’re Mother Theresa.

Or we can mark them up to make profit on each thing we do like we’re 7-11.

In the past, we doubled the price from wholesale on each product.

Problem: if it was a $120 wholesale product, doubling seemed too high.

We aren’t interested in the concept of giving things away because we are already making money on the treatment part. I don’t begrudge my mechanic marking up parts at a reasonable rate. Part of the value is knowing that he chooses good parts.

Have you come up with a system that you like that has served you well.

Thanks,
