I don't know yet it this applies to me, but will find out soon enough. I did the Brewer Pregnancy Diet with my last pregnancy to avoid a repeat case of pre-eclampsia. The theory is that pre-eclampsia is caused by malnutrion in early pregnancy. I don't remember all the technical aspects of it, but I know it worked for me. All the foods are very similar to BFL - quality proteins and carbs - eating vegetables/fresh fruit - eating 5-6 times a day - continuted activity - etc. The biggest problem is that it wants you to have about 2500 calories a day to be sure you are meeting the calorie requirement for you and the developing baby. Now if you throw Dr. Hussman (sp?) into the mix and " focus on the deficit " - I wonder what your calorie requirement vs activity levels would need to be in order to continue to lose fat, gain muscle, but not sacrifice your health or that of your baby's? I'm just trying to see how it would all fit together. In the past I've gained a lot of weight with both my pregnacies and I would really like to have a fit and healthy one this time. (if it's the case) Anyway - I'm mostly just posting my thoughts as I'm trying to work through them. If anyone has any info or good links to exercise and nutrition durring pregnancy I'd really appreciate it. I found taht I could still do my workouts, though I had to keep my heartrate down and reduce the amount of weight I lifted. The end result was that even though I gained 42 lbs during this pregnancy, I had a very quick delivery and was able to recover fast. I lost 48 lbs. when I got pregnant and now am in even better shape. I want to point out that the following is only my opinion, but it made sense to me... I would work out your non-pregnant calorie requirements for maintenance (not weight loss), and then stick to that, while adding a good quality pregnancy multi-vitamin/mineral. The pregnancy uses some calories so that would mean that YOU would lose some weight while pregnant, but at that level of intake you and the baby should be getting all the necessary nutrition. Now, unfortunately, I can't say that it's working for me! lol. My diet is far from perfect and the exercise is very erratic. I'm at 23 weeks (second pregnancy) and feel like a whale. I've put on 14lbs already, (although my bra size increase probably accounts for five of them, up to a full E cup already. yikes!) I had to eat constantly through the morning sickness and now I find anything wholegrain gives me heartburn. lol, no one said it would be easy! Thanks for the reply and link. I'm going to test tomorrow so I'll find out then if this applies to me and will definitely check out the link. I did do a Google on " pregnancy and weight training " yesterday and found some good information too. Thanks again, especially for your personal experience.
