Guest guest
It is likely that you will have to pay additional taxes on your services, and not just your profit. It is amazing to me that it passed. Don White, RN, DC In a message dated 2/2/2010 2:43:47 P.M. Guest guest
I believe the Doc under discussion may have collected 2 to 3 million dollars and thus will need to pay considerably more taxes based solely on his collections -not on his profits. I believe this extra tax kicks in at 500,000 dollars in collections. THis is why many businesses were complaining that this is a back door sales tax-it taxes net sales and not profit. I believe ballot measure 67 is the one that nails businesses. So if we do not collect over 500,000 dollars in our practices we will only need to pay the 150 corporate tax .THis is my understanding of the new tax. In any case it is bad news for Oregon's economy. Guest guest
Here is the ballot info from http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Oregon_Measure_66_(2010)Yes vote: “Yes” vote raises tax on incomes above $250,000 for households, $125,000 for individual filers. Tax rate increases 1.8 percentage points on amount of taxable income between $250,000 and $500,000, 2 percentage points on amount above $500,000 for households. For individual filers, the rate increases begin at $125,000 and $250,000 respectively. Eliminates income taxes on the first $2,400 of unemployment benefits received in 2009. Raises estimated $472 million to provide funds currently budgeted for education, health care, public safety, other servicesSince the tax is only additional 1.8% of moneys over $250,000(for couples) and then switching to 2% on money over $500,000(for couples). So if you make $500,000 at 1.8% equals $9,000 additional tax. Then your next $500,000 would be taxed at 2% or $10,000 of tax. Meaning if you made one million dollars (in taxable income) your additional tax would be $19,000.$40,000 is about 9% of $450,000. Guest guest
Doc you are only looking at ballot measure 66.. Ballot measure 67 affects all corporations and this raises taxes on busineses based on their sales not on their profits. It also raises the minimum tax to 150 dollars as opposed to 10. I believe the doc in question was probably getting nailed by ballot measure 67 not 66. Just a good guess here. Guest guest
Yeah, Measure 67 is an honest to goodness "SALES TAX." They voted in a sales tax in Oregon... And, since that worked so splendidly, I can't wait until the NEXT election to see what "other" sales taxes our lovely legislature will attempt to slip by the comatose under the guise of, "We're only taxing the rich; go ahead, vote for it...it won't affect YOU!." Which is absolutely silly because, every business that now has to pay higher taxes is re-figuring the costs of their goods in order to pass the "buck" along to US the consumer...
