Guest guest
A change of this nature occurs as my patients change from cow-sourced dairy to plant-sourced dairy. They often experience a downtrend in food sensitivies, a loss of weight and a re-distributribution beyiond what just 'less calories' explain. In working with foods and fibromyalgia this change in food metabolism is observale as people change from primarily animal proteins to primarily plant proteins. No, we don't teach vegatarianism, just a change from dairy. THAT change has been know to inspire people to shift the primary sources of their proteins. Guest guest
: Almond, soy, rice and hemp milks all could fit the category of plant sourced "dairy" products. Guest guest
It is my understanding, although I did not observe this personally as it bores me to tears, that at the recent awards actor Woody Harrelson's suit was made completely from hemp. Gosh, there are many uses for such a versatile plant. I never knew there was a "dairy" product originating from Hemp. Next time I'm in Trader Joes I'm gonna look for some "dairy" alternatives. J. Guest guest
This has been an interesting thread to follow. While I do not doubt that foreign substances are toxic to us and will likely disrupt normal endocrine function, it seems to me the answer IS NOT "hemp milk" and the like! I've presented this before, but I'll be redundant and recommend reading "Primal Blueprint" by Mark Sisson, (which is a really easy read, but fully supportable), and Taubes "Good Calories, Bad Calories". The take home of these books is to get away from processed carbs specifically, increase "good fat" consumption and in the case of "Primal Blueprint", eat and move to your genotype (real Chestnut like!) which means avoiding the products which are not whole and natural and moving/exercising in a more "natural" way. It ain't as hard as it sounds! Guest guest
Hemp and specifically Marijuana are NOT foreign substances. These are natural plant products that have a wide variety of benefits and have been used by humans for eons without any evidence of endocrine onslaught when used moderately. I'd like to know the science behind and the studies that you seem to derive that opinion. Nonetheless, No deaths or overdoses have EVER been documented. Too much of many many things can kill us that are deemed safe and natural. Ironically Marijuana is something that it appears no matter the doseage cannot kill you. It alone has NEVER killed anyone. Doesnt get much more natural than that. Think about that. Even water can kill in copious amounts. The one problem i have with the "caveman" diet and the like is that it seems to not take in to consideration that man has evolved. However, a balanced diet including real whole food as well as exercise is indeed the way to go in my opinion as well. ph Medlin D.C.Spine Tree Chiropractic1607 NE Alberta StPDX, OR 97211503-788-6800 Endocrine disrupters Dr. Cohen et al, Take a look at this :http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35315651/ns/health-diet_and_nutrition/ s. fuchs dc Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft's powerful SPAM protection. Guest guest
Whoa! I didn't say hemp was foreign, I said hemp milk wasn't the answer. With regards to "Caveman diet", you are paraphrasing, and if you would take the time to read studies and books I've mentioned you would find that they are not saying eat like a caveman, BUT don't eat like a modern human. Specifically, the Sisson book addresses the issue of how to live more "primal" in today's world. With regards to evolution, in evolutionary terms we are not long enough removed from hunting and gathering to have adapted to a grain based diet. There is differences in individuals and groups, and tolerance to the anti-nutrients within grains, but essentially we are genetically hunters and gatherers. This is not BS, this is based on the research of many different professions (the least of which are medical researchers). If you want to use hemp by all means use it, but I doubt that reaching out and grabbing a marijuana plant for a snack would have been very enjoyable, it would have tasted like S#@!. Guest guest
the 'sensationalism' surrounding discussions about marijuana and hemp products tend to distract from the issues. It is an herbal product with an enormous to contribute to societal needs. More importantly however, is its contribution to foods. HOWEVER, in a discussion about plant milks, regarding their superiority and benefical contributions to the human system, coconut milks win hands down. That oil is so very beneficial to the human system and has less calories and carbs than others. my 2 cents Sunny ;'-)) Sunny Kierstyn, RN DC Fibromyalgia Care Center of Oregon 2677 Willakenzie Road, 7CEugene, Oregon, 97401541- 654-0850; Fx; 541- 654-0834www.drsunnykierstyn.com ; dcdocbrian@...From: spinetree@...Date: Tue, 9 Mar 2010 12:44:28 -0800Subject: Re: Endocrine disrupters Hemp and specifically Marijuana are NOT foreign substances. Guest guest
, What you are saying sounds and seems very logical and useful and appropriate .... what makes me laugh is that you must have someone who is able to hang out in your kitchen and spend the time ti takes for the prep work for that style of diet ..... as a single perons who regularly 'does 12 hour days' and goes home to a dark and silent kitchen, cooking or standing and doing the prep work for a solid diet is just not in my bones at that moment. The single dishes at Trader Joe's and other brands of one-dish or microwave dinners is general what's for dinner. Occasionally I get the act together enough to do a crock-pot meal or soup but then get tired of left overs after 2 days and throw out the rest.... that seems so wasteful to me that I'm back to the one-dish meals or sandwiches. This is not to complain, just remind you that suggesting that type of food universe really does require a person available within the family unit that can hang out in the kitchen. Guest guest
, What you are saying sounds and seems very logical and useful and appropriate .... what makes me laugh is that you must have someone who is able to hang out in your kitchen and spend the time ti takes for the prep work for that style of diet ..... as a single perons who regularly 'does 12 hour days' and goes home to a dark and silent kitchen, cooking or standing and doing the prep work for a solid diet is just not in my bones at that moment. Another interesting read is "Botany of Desire" by Michale Pollan, in which he discusses the use of the weed by man and vice-versa (?). Guest guest
Sorry , the way I read your email it looked like you were including hemp into the category of foreign endocrine disrupting substances. I've read much on the "caveman" diet and yes i was paraphrasing. I don't think we are too far removed to have adapted to a grain based diet and in fact most if not all people can consume these products along with a balanced diet and live very healthy. The problem is that our society (especially American) has moved to very simple grains as a very common source. This isn't good. Complex and whole grains are perfectly healthy. Ancient civilizations consumed grains and breads. I am not a fan of fads or any diet that is extreme. A balance has shown to be the best approach over time. ph Medlin D.C.Spine Tree Chiropractic1607 NE Alberta StPDX, OR 97211503-788-6800 Endocrine disrupters Dr. Cohen et al, Take a look at this :http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35315651/ns/health-diet_and_nutrition/ s. fuchs dc Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft's powerful SPAM protection. Guest guest
There is no doubt that numerous civilizations have thrived since the onset of the agricultural revolution. A stable calorie source allowed populations to grow and encouraged reproduction. This does not mean it was best for health on a day to day basis, but did help prevent starvation (unless there was failure of a monocrop). Still, 15,000 years is an instant in evolutionary times, and as you know, the absence of symptoms is not the presence of health. How many asymptomatic gluten sensitive individuals are there? Eating a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, natural oils, meats and fish is a fad diet? How so? Is eating breakfast cereal, juice and toast; a snack bar; a sandwich and "cup of soup" for lunch (with MSG but Low fat!); a pop or two during the day; then dinner of pasta, prego, green salad and bread and of course, a dessert....healthy!?! It is certainly "normal" and close to the food pyramid.
