Guest guest
We received a solicitation from Uni-Care network. It looks like a cash discount program. They allow $35 for an initial exam and ask you to give a 20% discount from U and C. Of course you get a free membership so you can go buy health services from other panel members! Any experience /comments out there? Guest guest
Ron: There are a bunch of these discount health programs out there that automatically put you on their list of providers and it's up to you to get off it. When you call them, they always say to send/fax them a letter telling them you don't want to be on their list. We've had several people come in over the past few years saying that we're on the list of some company that indicates they're supposed to get a 20-30% discount...and a free chicken dinner. Guest guest
This is a common SILENT PPO. If you're a member of ASHN or some other really low budget poor paying plan, ask if they sell the contracts to new buyers. That may be part of your small print contract. It happened to me once with ASHN. It extended to auto insurers as well!!!!!!!!!! I got out of it years ago for that reason. The company required you to be part of ALL purchased contracts sending your signature by PROXY with the first contract you signed. In my case, I had to send in a 5-6 page request to stop the contract. Then I had to wait 6-12 months for the request to take effect once headquarters received it. Up to that time they could keep selling your proxy signature with the first signed contract and force you to take the lesser pay. ASK about silent PPOs before you go into any contract. ANd if you don't understand this, write on the line above your name on ALL contracts that you forbid the sale of the contract to any other buyers without telephone contact and written separate approval by you. Guest guest
I've stayed away from ASHN and the like, With my style of practice, I really can't absorb the minimal reimbursement that they offer. So I guess I've been able to side step this kind of scam. A single payer national healthcare program would eliminate all of these 'scams' originating in the healthcare insurance industry, an industry whose sole purpose is to dumb down benefits, shift costs to patients, saddle us with the burden of working much harder for much less, while maximizing their profits. How that would effect us as "alternative healthcare" docs is the rub. No on rally knows. I guess someday we will find out... Ann , DC Re: Uni-Care This is a common SILENT PPO.
