Guest guest
My office manager has a 2003 Volvo S80. Suddenly it won’t start. The engine (starter) doesn’t engage. It is in park but the key wont turn past 1st position to second position (I think 3rd position is the engage starter position). The steering wheel freewheels like it’s in drive or neutral. It stops at moving a foot forward or back like it’s in park. Battery is fine and jumping it doesn’t help. All accessories turn on as normal. Foot on brake etc. no change (we have a car that won’t allow you to shift from park unless your foot is on the brake.) Her moron mechanic told her it is not in park. (In mechanical things, a moron is anyone giving advice who is not me. [unless he figures out something that I couldn’t in which case he becomes a genius or a wizard- thus pre-empting my designation as a moron. Hopefully, if you have an ounce of mechanical self worth, it’s the same for you!) It’s in park; just acts like it’s not. I checked the manual and it has no atlas so could not adjust it. In frustration, I gently tractioned the seat cover to see if I could affect its meninges to no avail. We have not tried standing around with 3 guys with baseball caps drinking beer to create a redneck mind meld but the last patient is at 5:30 so that option is still open. Any ideas? E.
