I just received an email solicitation from Tom Necela of The Strategic Chiorpractor, adivising we need to have an updated HIPPA Business Associate agreement to reflect new law. Any body else heard of this? You can buy the form from Tom for $25,but since this has a short deadline, I'd like to get other feedback. R Johansen D.C. Doc,

By now all of us are supose to have HIPAA regs in place for normal business. You are already having every patient sign the HIPAA regulation form, etc. The other doctors in your office, your staff and massage therapists, vacation releif docs and everyone in the office should have signed their format for a BA agreement.

If you bill electronically or send health records via the internet you must have the new regs in place. If not, these do not apply, yet.

You can download sample BA agreements from the Federal HIPAA web site. Google: HITECH 2009 and follow the government tread.

Or just pay Tom the $25. It is easier! I had not heard about the deadline either until today's posting. Guess the HITECH bill slipped right on by us. But I guess the government will "slip" things into all kinds of bills. . .
