Guest guest
Glad to hear I'm not the only choco-holic!! I was good on Monday (a couple nibbles of kids' food, not bad, though ;o), Tuesday (good) and man, yesterday.... I HAD TO HAVE CHOCOLATE!! I ate 2 of the small, bite size reese's pb cups and a cadbury egg!! BAD, BAD, me ( But I will count that as a FREE meal and have only another FREE meal this week! But I hear ya about eating better. I keep telling myself that this is way better than I've ever eaten before and it'll take some time to adapt ;o) Sunshine > Well - I'm going to be accountable and confess that I haven't been 100% > clean. Guest guest
: I have a similar problem, only not just with chocolate (though I love it, too!). I love bread, too...which I think is just as damaging because I could wolf down a 1/2 a loaf without even thinking about it. Here are some things I try to do just before I pop something in my mouth: 1. Stop and think about whether I'm really hungry or not. If I'm really hungry, I try to think about what I might like just as well that is authorized. Sometimes I can find a substitute and I'll eat that instead. 2. Drink 12oz of water (got that from Bill...grin) and then ask myself if I still want the unauthorized food. Usually I feel too full to eat anything. 3. Brush my teeth. Sounds weird, but sometimes I just don't want to eat after I brush. 4. I eat (slowly) one of my children's chewable vitamins; they're like candy but I get a little extra vitamin shot. 5. Make a cup of green tea and add Splenda to it. It solves the sweet in my mouth desire and it takes a while to drink it. 6. (Here's my new one): Do some stretches, then one movement I'm working on -- for now, it's pushups. Once I get my heart rate up a little, food isn't as attractive to me. 7. Last resort for chocolate craving: I'll eat an EAS Lo-Carb Advantage Edge Peanut Butter/Chocolate or Chocolate Chip Brownie bar. I really try to save these for emergency food, but sometimes they serve a chocolate craving emergency, too. One more suggestion: from a little book I got called " Cellulite Going, Going, Gone " , it suggests that chocolate cravings could be due to a deficiency in Chromium. Sources of chromium are: Brewers yeast, whole wheat, oysters, potatoes, green peppers, chicken, apples and spinach. It also says adding Vitamin E to your diet may help. Now, I don't know whether this is " fuzzy science " or real, but it might be worth eating a little more chicken, apples, or green peppers in the meal just before a chocolate craving (if you notice your cravings happen at a certain time of day) to see if it helps. Guest guest
Lots of great suggestions. Thanks! And I don't eat chocolate because I'm hungry by any means. I eat it because it makes my mouth feel happy. I know there's some scientific stuff I could quote here about how something in chocolate triggers endorphins or something, but all I know is that I haven't found much of anything (yet) that makes my brain go " Ahhhhh " like Hershey's Cookies and Cream, or choc chip cookie dough. There was a conversation here not too long ago (which I have saved) about emotional eating and how when we can't/don't do it it sort of leaves us feeling empty. Haven't found a way to replace that yet, but I just joined Flylady.com, so maybe there's hope! Having a sparkly home (well, kitchen sink anyway) has definitely brightened my mood the past few days. Anyhow - sorry to ramble - thanks for the all the suggestions! Re: Week challenge! > : > > I have a similar problem, only not just with chocolate (though I > love it, too!).
