Guest guest
Just a reminder, while cranberry juice is great for prevention and even - at times - can turn an active infection around without antibiotics, remember that the same action that makes it effective for fighting the infection (it coats the inside of the bladder) will keep an antibiotic from working, since it won't be absorbed in the bladder where the abx primarily fights the infection because of that same coating. So, if a doctor prescribes an antibiotic for a kidney/bladder/UTI type of infection, stop drinking the cranberry for the duration of the round of antibiotic. Hope everyone is well. We just had our annual visit with the immuno. is doing great and is right where he ought to be with meds, etc., so it was a good report. However, it looks as if we're going to have to do an immunology work-up on Christi about the whole cold sore/rash thing. We had hoped that all of that had been cleared up with the two month round of Cephalexin (because the dermatologist said she had an infection of her hair follicles and that it was not related to the cold sores) and the Acyclovir for the cold sores. Well, after THREE months of the Cephalexin, (which I am highly allergic to, so had to give to her), stopped both meds for about 2 days. On the third day, there was a cold sore in the same place on her bottom lip, and - surprise, surprise - the day after that, she got the same rash in the diaper area. I gave Dr. Harville the background of when these cycles started (Christi had a virus and erupted in blisters all over her mouth, inside her mouth and down her throat and after that about every 5 weeks she had a cold sore in the same place followed by a rash). He gave some kind of name for the type of rash that he said it sounded like, said that it was indeed related to the cold sore outbreak, and when he found out that my mother and I both had Epstein Barr (a virus in the herpetic family), my grandmother had HSV1 related encephalitus and that the encephalitus that had was also caused by HSV1, he said that Christ should probably be referred in for a work up. Anyway, I'm not overly thrilled at the prospect of having my baby poked and prodded, but I highly respect Dr. Harville. Besides, I need to know for sure what is going on so that I know what exposure might be getting. Okay, and while I'm at it......then I get home to hear a message on my answering machine about the abdominal sonogram I'd had done THE WEEK BEFORE EASTER that they are finally getting around to telling me about, and apparently they want to do a CT scan now. I already owe several thousand for all the other stuff they did (no health insurance, go figure), so I'm really fighting the financial panic meltdown. Well, really must get back to straightening up my house. We went camping for a couple of weeks and left everything turned upside down and I still have to clean up all the camping gear and clothes, plus play catch up on the house. Guest guest
Wenoka: Sounds like you could use a hug too. I'm sorry it seems Christi might have some issues -- I know that's always been a fear of mine and I can't imagine going down that road again. I'm sending prayers your way about your own health, too. Don't worry about the money, your health is #1. You can offer them a settlement figure down the road and they will take it in payments. Guest guest
Happy Friday everyone. SInce my wedding is only 12 weeks away and this is my 3rd week, I am really trying to be perfect with BFL. However, I have to drink one glass of cranberry juice a day to help with urinary problems-where or how does that fit into the program? Thanks for all your helpful advice-it is keeping me motivated.
