Guest guest
You HAVE to eat a lot of fat when you're on a low carb diet, or you would have zero energy. Your body uses carbs and fat for energy, so if you're not having carbs, you have to have fat instead. The reason you are 'allowed' a few carbs is because your brain and reproductive organs won't function on fat, they have to have carbs to work. Which might go some way to explaining why your trainer is restricting your fat intake. If you are having carbs, you wouldn't need as much fat. But the biggest thing to remember when talking about fat is that there really are good and bad fats. Bad fats would be things like animal fat & palm oil. Good fats would be things like avocado, flaxseed oil, & almonds. They contain Essential fatty acids (EFA's), which are GREAT. Check out this link for a few facts about EFA's. http://www.udoerasmus.com/products/oil_blend.htm in NZ > I am back from an attempt at the low carb lifestyle. Guest guest
That's actually about right for BFL assuming you're having 6 meals and eating around 1500 cals. BFL is around 40/40/20 ratio-wise, maybe a little higher on carbs than protein. But 20% of 1500 cals would mean 5.5g of fat at each of the six meals. Lots of us supplement with additional healthy fats but that's not part of the per-meal count for most people. Back from the Low Carb Abyss My question is that he really has my fat limited...only 3-7 grams per meal. How do you all feel about this? It depends on how big your meal is or how small <G>. Aim for 20% fat. I usually eat about 20 grams protein and 20 grams carbs so that is 160 calories. If I get 4 grams of fat that is about 40 calories and a total of 200 calories; and 20%. So yes 4 grams for that kind of meal is good. I don't actually " count " per se but do notice that I vary from 3-7 per meal. Colleen
