Guest guest
Well your wonderful old teacher and friend, Ann W., gets it. Further, I honor the time you put in on the Medicare committee. Believe me, I'm just a cynical as any of us. So much so that it was making me sick. So I've chosen a path of non-resistance and I fully expect that we, as chiropractors will be okay. I know that I and my practice will be okay. "There is room for everyone at the table." And I am not blind. I see WHO is running this country. Can make my blood boil. That also makes me sick and does not serve my life or my practice. So while my path may not be compatible with the warrior in you, I honor your path. And I walk mine with confidence and peace. Your respectful teacher and friend, Ann W. Re: Fw: From Capitol Hill: Health Reform Update Greetings Neil. I am with you. I think it is appropriate to mention to folks that you have special, first hand experience with gov't bureaucratic culture in that you were an elected official as mayor of a small town. We both know that at even the small town level, there is an inherent and incessant drive for gov't to validate itself at every turn. I was once more confident in the Feds like my wonderful old teacher and friend Ann w. In fact anyone can read my optimistic posts re. Medicare from 10 years ago and see for themselves. But 4 years of sitting in those Medicare carrier advisory committees as our profession's rep. had a profound impact on me. I saw and experienced a stubborness and righteousness that was new to me. I event ually lost my faith in these embedded public employees to facilitate logical change. , neroco2@... wrote: > > Greetings Everyone: > > I've been reading all the posts regarding the Proposed National Health Care System and both sides make interesting points. > > I just want to point out to you younger folks that may either not remember the SAIF debacle in 1990 or were not yet practicing, but the arguments were similar. Guest guest
I agree wholeheartedly with Ann, "There is room for everyone at the table." If we simply let any American who wants to buy into Medicare, and those who would prefer not to continue to support BCBS or whoever, let them do so as well, all of this fighting over the details would evaporate. For those younger than 65, a slightly higher monthly rate would need to be charged to cover the bottom end of rate payers, but it would solve the inaccessibility problem easily. Chiropractic services under Medicare would probably look like our current WC rules, allowing for manual reductions of subluxations on a per injury basis without reimbursement for maintenance care; and for fuller service, insurances would be available. Or, we would be paid directly out of pocket. We must be able to opt-out of the Medicare system if we choose, but we could also add 47 million potential patients to our roles, if we choose to participate. Each chooses their won direction. That's a big table. Guest guest
I receive an email that delivers an 'inspiring quote' every week. This week's quote is from Manin sey and it seemed worth passing on, particularly as we try to find our way through concerns about the economy and health care reform: Love knows no bounds and has no limits. Love knows no threat, because perfect Love casts out every fear. In every circumstance in which we perceive a boundary or threat, ask, "How can I see this differently?", and Love will open itself to you. We are all processing our concerns about the 'nitty gritty' of health care reform and keeping our practices afloat these days. For some, that means sitting in committee meetings/hearings and talking directly to those who will make 'decisions'. For many, this is done by sharing ideas, frustrations and worries from the sidelines without many immediate or direct influence. However, that doesn't eclipse the opportunity to SEE a better situation for our profession and for the patients we treat. Ergo, I share this quote that 'spoke to me' this morning. Guest guest
I remember when Louisiana was the last state to license chiropractors, and the AMA ran all it's garbage on the wire service out of New Orleans, or Baton Rouge. I just talked with an insurance company today that had Out of Network coverage of Chiropractic. Great sell to their insured, right. Well, they had " Alternative Care Coverage " of which, Chiropractic is in that. When are we " main stream " ? 2050?? Anyway, they had $1000 for Chiropractic, in or out of network, but a $1000 deductible for out of network coverag. So, I asked was the deductible included in the $1000 of " coverage " ? Of course, they said yes. So, I stated, " So essentially, they have no out of network coverag, right, a wash. He fumbled around, and said, well, that is correct. It is criminal what they get away with, but I believe they will continue, and part of the " deal " , is all STATE MANDATES WILL BE REMOVED. The insurance companies have endlessly, and tirelessly worked to exclude Chiropractic care, as well as Medicare, our current " government option " . If these mandates are removed, we may have our current version of Medicare as coverage, or possibly nothing. With 30 years of history, I am sorry, but the later is a greater probabilty. If the insurance companies have a choice in what to bargain away....we are at the top of the list. My 2 cents, Dr. G. Smalling > > > And I get the SAIF reference.? Guest guest
Yes, which is why Re-Vamping the entire system could be beneficial for us. Heck, we don't have much to lose really do we? Could give us an opportunity to level the playing field and end the discriminatory fleecing Crap. BTW, the current Medicare system doesnt treat a lot of doctors well, not only chiros. ph Medlin D.C.Spine Tree Chiropractic1607 NE Alberta StPDX, OR 97211503-788-6800 Re: Re: Fw: From Capitol Hill: Health Reform Update> > ? > > > > I know what I'm about to share may strike some of you as Pollyanna-ish or WhooWhoo, but here goes anyway:> > Almost every post I read presents a doom and gloom picture about how Chiropractors will be "cut", "sidelined", "eliminated", "burned", "trashed", etc, etc.? > > Gives me a headache just to think about it...> Geez, take a deep breath.? Guest guest
Don't have much to loose? I believe we have plenty to loose. PI in this state is darn good-as are many private pay programs. If this were lost this would be a bit painful for many of us. I believe you are dreaming a bit Joe-or perhaps you are more of a gambler than I am. My experience with Medicare has left me sorely traumatized. I will not soon trust any government run health plan.
Guest guest
On the other hand, one might ask WHY insurance companies have included us at all. By "polular demand". NOT. Because they "got religion" and now like DC's? Not. I believe that the ONLY reason we are on any insurance plans is that we are cost efficient and we SAVE them money. If we "make money" for insurance companies, we will remain in their good graces. Am I crazy? Ann DC

Guest guest
We have good reimbursement for many plans. Medicare pays other doctors for all services under their license. We get Manipulation...at ridiculous fees, and limited visits. MD's get paid for everythng, though, somewhat less than private pay. Medicare has the same reimbursement, without exam, x-ray, or therapy, I don't see much comparison there. Medicare has not changed since the 60's, except they graciously didn't require us to prove subluxation with xray (which they would not pay for, though they required it). So good luck on getting any better in these times. G. Smalling > > > > > > And I get the SAIF reference.? Guest guest
Hi , I certainly didn't calculate the loss of PIP coverage into the equation. I am assuming for argument sake that PIP will be unchanged as it is a seperate entity from private health insurance. I can understand. I hate Medicare and have scaled it back to the point where i can pretty much say i don't take it. But WIlliam, many of the health insurance plans are fleecing us as well, many offer less than medicare, many claim to cover chiro and don't and many just don't. So... in the context to the post that i was responding to, I feel that this could be a good time for us to make sure that we are part of the new system in Fair way. Think about how easy it could be in practice. Those of you that take insurance like myself and do a lot of your own billing understand the confounded cosmic joke of different coverages, different reimbursements, deductables, visit limits, pre-auths yada yada yada. This could all be simplified and with a fair re-imbursement. We should be fighting for and lining up the troops for that fight. Dreaming is good. ph Medlin D.C.Spine Tree Chiropractic1607 NE Alberta StPDX, OR 97211503-788-6800 Re: Re: Fw: From Capitol Hill: Health Reform > Update> > > > ? > > > > > > > > I know what I'm > about to share may strike some of you as Pollyanna-ish or WhooWhoo, but here > goes anyway:> > > > Almost every post I read presents a doom and > gloom picture about how Chiropractors will be "cut", "sidelined", > "eliminated", "burned", "trashed", etc, etc.? > > > > Gives me > a headache just to think about it...> > Geez, take a deep breath.? Guest guest
Ann, I think it's both. We save them money AND public demand. Thats why they have these "fine print" plans that touting coverage for chiropractic (when in fact the coverage is simply smoke and mirrors). They do this to attract customers. People say "oh, i get chiropractic under that too?" ph Medlin D.C.Spine Tree Chiropractic1607 NE Alberta StPDX, OR 97211503-788-6800 Re: Re: Fw: From Capitol Hill: Health Reform Update On the other hand, one might ask WHY insurance companies have included us at all.
