Strange, AFAIK, the deer has to be killed, or surgically remove the pouch. The

opening is very small, and I can't see how they can remove the grains.

Civet, I can understand, it's a simple currettage, albeit most likely not under

local anaesthesia.

However, wonders never cease!

Well, as I said the info. is all second hand. Perhaps they just kill the poor

thing, and the

ethical improvement centers on the fact that wild populations are not impacted.

I will try

to do more research on this... but doubt I will find much.

Last year I was searching the internet to find out about the musk

trade in China. Musk is am important ingredient in Chinese Medicine.

The Chinese government wanted to create a way in which the musk deer

can live in a healthy way where it would not be shot at. They have

developed small farms where the must is removed from thr deer without

killing it. The musk is sold to be used in medicine, and I think it

is possible to petition the government for a small ammount.

Musk is often sold illegally in seaport cities such as Tsingtao. But

it can be puchased directly from the chinese government. Now, I need

to know how to do this. I'll search around, to try to refind the

sites I had once discovered-

Last year I was researching the internet about the musk trade in

China. I fouind an article about the Chinese government creating

farms for musk dear where they would be well fed, protected from

hunters, and not killed for their musk. The musk pods would be

remowed surgically. and sold for use in Chinese medicine. They would

consider selling to others through some chinese government

organization. I will try to find this information again, as I did not

save it. I have adventurous fantasies about going to China to fing

Tonquin Musk.
