Hi, I will start taking it tomorrow..Acutally since we started

Chelation she has calmed down alot..and she is actually close to

being potty trained..we have seen an improvment since starting and

she actually has better days on the days we are chelating...I will

try this for a few weeks and see how it goes..

i am not happy about the rice filler so might try the

selenomethionine tablets.

I don't know what other people do, but I mix selenium in with some other

stuff so he gets it in 2 doses. I use seleniomethionine. Also, selenium from

wateroz.

They say 1-2 mcg/body pound. Nicky is just under 50 pounds and gets 100 mcg

plus the wateroz. He's gotten it for a long time and I've not seen any

problems but some would consider that high. You could go for half that amount.

, selenium in any form can be toxic if taken in too high of quantities.

However, some people have different needs for Se. if it is for yourself, you

can just creep up the dosages and see how you feel. For a child you are

meant to stay at 1-2 mcg/pound of child. So for a 50 pound child you do 50-100

mcg/day. I never worry about doing 100 mcg and have done even a little

higher for Nicky (who is about 50 pounds)

what is the balance of the two. like a ratio? is there copper in selenium?

Away from your other thyroid meds, since it probably uses calcium

carbonate as a binder. You should not supplement with more than 200 mcg

I am taking 100 mcg. a day for two weeks then I'm supposed to take 100 mcg. 2

times a week.

This is a great point.

Not to dismiss the study on Selenium and its necessity for the body but the

east and west coast states namely NJ and CA have also some of the most ungodly

toxic waste releases.

Also having lived in Cedar Rapids IA which ranks among the 10th percentile of

dirties air in the US (from various industries but mostly food processing), I

notice the amazing rate of what could be undiagnosed autism cases around me.

Meeting children all the time that had very little to no functional language

by three years of age with substantial behavioral issues while their parents

casually told me that they will talk, that I was too worried and all my

speculations on my son's delays were all in my head.

I truly hope that some day more studies will be done to measure the true rates

of learning disabilities and industrial toxic releases.

Sorry if my comments are unrelated to selenium but I think finding the

solutions necessitate more integrated and interconnected approach to research.

I DO thank you for this discussion, I am going to add more selenium to Keyon's

supplements, Any suggestion as how much for a 30lb boy would be an optimum

amount.

Adding selenium caused nice improvements for my son. I would give

100mcg [2 doses of 50mcg] and see if that works. You might want to

start with half that amount at first.

USRDA for adults is 70mcg. I gave my son 100mcg for several months,

until it started causing regression. Now I give him a small sprinkle

every few days, like 2x per week, and that works well for him.

Hi Ellen,

My Doc has had me on selenium for over two years....Has it helped?

Can't quite answer that one...I am in control of my Lupus , some call

it remission. I only take supplements that Doc has recommended and

most through testing. Happy Holidays!

daily multi-vitamin supplement with minerals so that we are not deficient

in any area. In particular, we should be taking plenty of vitamins B6, B12,

D and E.

Thank you, Harald. I belong to the support group to gather information for

my 35-year-old daughter who has systemic SD and multiple sclerosis. I'll

look at the web sites you indicated and try to find out if selenium is also

beneficial in her case.

Ellen, Rheumatic groups, all..

I was tested by an alternative DR in Indiana a few years ago for selenium

because, he told me that an excess can cause problems as well. I was

actually a bit high in selenium, he thought due to the fact I ate a lot of

tuna then...Just wanted to put this out there..Debbie

It interesting to note that the same food supplements are suggested for SD

and RA. This suggests that the root causes may be related.

FYI ... My doctor has me on 200 mg of selenium a day. She doesn't recommend

taking more than 200 mg per day.
