Guest guest
Hey all, it's my understanding that the nm re-educ code is only for things such as Stroke, Gullien Barr, Bells Palsey Cerebral Palsey etc. I believe Dr. Freedland already has had a post on this in the past. Perhaps he can respond again. It is my opinion that it shouldn't. In the meantime, use therapeutic exercise codes. Don WHite, RN, DC Access 350+ FREE radio stations anytime from anywhere on the web. Guest guest
Most PI insurance will pay for NMR with the 97112 code, but I had a go round with one insurance company and received a formal letter from an NURSE who summarily dismissed my appeal. Even went on the ACA website to get some cannon fodder to challenged their assessment. Finally wrote it off. I guess that's what they wanted, so they were successful. IF SOMEONE KNOWS HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS EFFECTIVELY , PLEASE CC THE ENTIRE OREGONDCS GROUP. We all need this info. Thanks. A DC Neurological Re-education Code 97112 We bill for this code many times when rehabbing a significant injury. Auto Injury Solutions' Chiropractor is attempting to state that it can only be applied for conditions such as Stroke, Gullien Barr, Bells Palsey Cerebral Palsey etc. Anyone else have problems with this? ph Medlin D.C. Guest guest
So my understanding is that the PI companies adopted the WC rules lock stock and barrel. And so, if they pay less than what I bill or choose to refuse payment for a particular code, I cannot collect the balance from the patient or have the attorney pay me any outstanding balance out of a final settlement. Are you saying that these rules apply ONLY to WC cases and NOT to PI's?? Thanks Ann Re: Neurological Re-education It is not the law it is just what the PI Insurance has to pay. Guest guest
Per Dr. White request, here it is again: The AMA through the CPT Assistant, which helps to clarify coding issues and definitions, has responded on this matter. Neuromuscular re-education is a form of exercise rehabilitation utilized following a neurological insult with result deficit. It would be appropriate following a stroke, an event resulting in the lost of function of a limb, following joint replacement surgery, or other similar type of condition. It is not a form of massage or manual therapy. For these use 97124 or 197140 (understand the limitation on this code). If you are performing exercise, use 97110 (therapeutic exercises) or possibly 97530 (therapeutic activities). The nurse was correct. Some may have been fortunate to receive payment when incorrectly billed. Regardless of the existence of a code, it is still the responsibility of the treating doctor to use the code that accurately reflects the service performed and appropriately document the necessity of the procedure. Tom Freedland An Excellent Credit Score is 750. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps!
