I followed a link after this description:

CHICAGO Unveils Orange Coneflowers

NPR (audio) - USA

.... The flower also has a quite sweet aroma. Mr. AULT : Absolutely. And

that was a complete surprise. It's a very sweet, almost orange blossom-like

fragrance. ...

You *know* i'm going to grow some, even if I'm in zone 10 :-)

Thanks for posting this! I heard it too on NPR and had not had time to check

out a source.

yesterday and they say that it is in limited supply. So I too in zone 10

will try and grow it. Does anyone know if it has the same medicinal

properties as regular Coneflower?

don't know. Here's an informative link from Wayside that ID's it as E.

purpurea (not angustifolia, so if it does have medicinal value, it's the

purpurea properties, not the angustifolia.)

J & P has 2/1 price (compared to Wayside)

Hi Anya,

Actually, all Echinacea flowers have a sweet scent . . . it is faint and

fleeting from the time the blossom opens until it appears mature on the

plant. Check it out for yourself. You really have to get your nose in it -

very faint. I tried distilling some blossoms a couple of years ago . . .

disappointing. I'm anxious to see these, too . . .sounds like the scent is

stronger.

Be well,
