Guest guest
Dear JoeWe charge the full rate. If we know the patient well enough we may pro-rate the co-pay amount to spread it out over the next few weeks or months. If it is a new patient, we charge the full amount.AnnetteOn Feb 5, 2009, at 2:10 PM, joe medlin wrote:Folks, I hate when i run into this. What do most of you do when you have a patient with a high deductable for care such as $500.00? For a patient that comes in receives Detailed Exam, Massage, Exercise and Adjustments, Do you charge them according to the OR work comp standards or do you discount that somehow or what do you do? To give them my "Noninsured- Out of Pocket Rate" doesnt seem fair since they do have insurance, but paying for the FULL Rate doesnt quite seem fair either. confused.joe. ph Medlin D.C.Spine Tree Chiropractic1607 NE Alberta StPDX, OR 97211503-788-6800

Guest guest
The bottom line is this: it' no surprise to the patient that they have a deductible....... that $500 is going into some doctors pocket, why not yours. You are out of integrity with yourself if you don't collect what you are worth. And you are worth it!!!!!!!!! Judith E. Guest guest
Dr. s, really interesting and a good question. As a reminder to all on the listserv: No questions can be officially answered on the listserv by a single board member. In addition, the board members (no one in fact) is allowed to copy listserv material without express permission. I've been on the listserv for all my board term (6yrs), however, I think there's only one other board member on it now. Correct me if I'm wrong, I think it's the new president, Dr. Vissers. So the question could be missed. I'm leaving for a 2 week vacation starting at 2 PM today. and will most likely delete all listserv email unless the subject line interests me or is specifically directed to me. This is the same with other board members. We're overwhelmed with paperwork from the board and our own businesses. So to be absolutely certain you get an official response to these excellent practice questions, please send inquiries directly to the board or a member of the board with a clear message that you need an "official response". Then the answer protects you as it becomes policy. No board member may answer without consensus of the entire body. This begs an important question; can we treat our immediate family members (i.e. wife, kids, parents, siblings) as long as we keep chart notes, and they take up clinic time, and BILL insurance for those services? What do our Board members think? (:-) M. s, D.C. Great deals on Dell's most popular laptops - Starting at $

Guest guest
Most health insurance policy (including Blue Cross) have a disclaimer that would prohibit billing for services to an immediate family member. This is usually described in the benefits handbook that the policy holder receives from the insurance company (or employer - depending on the source of the insurance coverage).
