Guest guest
Hey guys. You know me...I've got more ideas! This is a doozy though. I'm thinking (way in to the future though) of making us a non profit organization. I have been thinking about this for the last year or so, and have been doing a lot of research. It would cost me a pretty penny to get it set up, but my costs would be tax deductible. My main reason for doing this (or thinking of it) is so that I can accept donations to help the members. I already have a banner ad set up on our website that pays me money when it is clicked on so I can save up to do some kind of scholarship program. I don't know how it will work or when I could do it. Again, this is only an idea. I'm not even sure if I have to incorporate to accept donations on behalf of the members. I may just set up a paypal account, and it may be just me that donates. The only things that I would make a 'rule' is that members would not be solicited for funds, and I may make it a rule that members could not contribute, since I think it could be a conflict of interest. If anyone is knowledgeable about tax advantages of setting up a non-profit please let me know. I was thinking that even if we never got any donations that I could deduct my expenses (setting up our own official website, etc) I am even just thinking of keeping up the banner ads and set up a pay pal account for donations and leave it at that. As far as my last idea went, there is now a mentor address at mentor@.... This would go to a volunteer to help you. As far as how the volunteers work, I'm not sure yet. I'm the only full time one. Looks like we may have one or two people volunteering, but again, they are only to help when they can and or want to. So....what do you guys think? Hugs, --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
heather not to burst your bubble cause what i think you are wanting to do is AWESOME!!!! but.... I have been working on starting a non profit for 3 years and im no closer to it now than the beginning... there is so many regulations... theres a ton of things that have to be done, there has to be a board of directors, there are SO many things involved not to mention its expensive to get it approved etc. theres a possibility you can become an "umbrella organization" under another organization where donations to to you but for tax purposes it goes through the head organization.. many places will help you with that but i know from experience that is been one heck of a nightmare... however you CAN accept donations up to 100 dollars now.. you do not have to be a non profit.... another thing is if you were to go ahead and to this you should probly get an actual website (apid) with its domain and if you decide to do that, I have a good person that is the cheapest around (2 bucks a month) so anyways.... i dont mean to upset you its just a lot of work and next to impossible to get going without TONS of people involved including a lawyer etc... I will talk to a few people I know that have started them though and see what advice they have to offer. SAndra Tossing around some ideas...need feedback Hey guys. You know me...I've got more ideas! Guest guest
Thanks Anne. I do know there are a lot of regulations, that is why I'm not actually doing it yet, just in the thinking stage. Do you know much about the laws around taking donations? Hugs, -----Original Message-----From: acarpe6119@...
