Hi Al,

> Hey Butch,

> I have never used hydrosols. I understand they are used for facial spritzers?

Many can be .. Rose and Lavender for example .. but I wouldn't wannna use

Oregano

Hydrosol as a facial spritzer. I do drink it .. around 20% dilution in water ..

its

commonly consumed in Turkey .. you can buy it in the supermarkets.

Many folks use Hydrosols in soaps .. mayhaps in cosmetics .. that I'm not sure

of.

> Can a bit of E.O. be added to make a blend? If so how can one keep

> the oil from separating?

No need to add EO to a Hydrosol .. a Hydrosol is EO bearing water. The oil in

the

Hydrosol is pretty hydrophylic .. doesn't separate easily though it will rise to

the

top after it sits a while. That's norm cause its less dense than water and if

you

saw the photos of the Florentine Flasks in the URL I sent .. you saw the Rose

Otto

floating on top of Hydrosol.

As for how you could keep it from separating .. somebody here smarter than me

can

most likely answer that .. I reckon you would need an emulsifier .. but I still

wouldn't recommend adding a EO to a Hydrosol .. no need.

> Thanks al

Welcome you are.

One other thing, I always reefer it.....once it's been opened....

To many crawlies in the air, and hydrosol is more susceptible to such

than other types of essence...

Ha ha ! When I first read that I thought you meant you you smoked it. Took

me a minute to realize what you really meant. Not you..it's me. I am really

tired I guess!

I love the idea of using hydrosols in beverages (ETOH or otherwise). Orange

Blossom Hydrosol in Strawberry smoothie rocks.  And Rose Hydro in wine sounds

great too. Never tried Lavender Hydro in anything, but has great possibilities I

think.

Just a caution to those unfamiliar with Hydrosols. If you want to ingest them

make sure they don't contain preservatives and are food grade. And refrigeration

is important with that too as mentioned.

Cheers!

Hey...I thought there might be some misinterp there too....

But that is *esoteric* terminology.......No?

Ya blew yer cover, Patty....<G>.....!

Uhhhhhh....my cover...?

Get my hydrosols outta Liberty, mostly....Add on stuff...

They have been perpetually out of the Orange Blossom.....

The lav I had just got aged to where it got used as de-scent....

I wonder what ice cubes made out of hydrosol might have for

applications...the stuff ought to freeze solid....

Some folks use them in cooking, too....

Just a caution to those unfamiliar with Hydrosols. If you want to

I know suppliers test them as part of SOP (or they should).....but they

can only control things until the seal of your bottle is cracked..

One would think that a media of water, with elements of EO in solution,

would not be conducive to critters, but I guess it is....

Best to offset them with high concentration C2H5OH...<G>......

Hi again...

For the newbies...

Hydrosol, hydrolat and distillate water....pretty much the same thing...

At one point, rosewater was a major commodity, so much that it was

essentially what roses got distilled for....

Was this annoying " oil " kept showing up....Stuff got pitched as

undesirable...

And I still don't believe it, but so the story goes....

Alwyn, I'm still scratching my head over the reefer reference, but I do

know Homer Simpson says the equation cited is the solution to all of

life's problems ;-)

The C2H5OH diluent should be at least 80 proof (or 40%).....In warmer

weather is best poured over cubicly shaped solid di-hydrogen oxide

(solidus at 32 Deg F or less), which comes from the freezer section of

the reefer....<G>...!

I guess it's a recent myth. People in days of old, i reason, weren't less

intelligent than us today, and were more interested probably in spotting extracs

and their qualities, as they found them, otr they emerged. Unlike 'consumers'

they didn't wait for someone to tell them something is valuable for its

qualities. People of old were more able to invest value themselves, and to

discern the qualities of things by their own senses.

There's the siilar story of coal, how it's qulities were discovered by accident,

at a picnic with fire under a ledge of coal, by a young english lord.

BUt I have also read of evidence of coal being used in ancient societes, and

even in old england.

I imagine in the local production, where roswe hydrosol wwas valued over hte oil

for local use, oil was not kept or resold from small production units, with no

market for it, or the market not reaching them to collect it.

Be very careful with the dihydrogen oxide though, it can be very toxic

especially if inhaled.
