Guest guest
Wow Dori. I think you did the right thing. Sheeesh! What is this world coming to? Hugs to you dear, -----Original Message-----From: Dori Barton [mailto:mommyelf5@...] Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 2004 3:39 PM Subject: School issues-need support Dear group, hey all I'm sorry I have to vent a little because I find myself facing something I have never had to tackle before & I need to have someone tell me the decisions I made today were ok & GOD I'm scared to go on THIS adventure... ok here goes...I'm sure most of you know the reason I joined this group is because of my daughter who has Aspergers Syndrome (which is a form of Autism) I have just yanked my daughter out of public school to begin homeschooling due to bullies in school before & her inability to cope with that. WShe had tried telling the teachers about it & was always told that she needed to sit down & be quiet & things were always blown off to the point that my daughter started coming home in hysterics every day because it had gotten so bad & one incident (sexual harassment) when a child told my daughter to suck dick (a term she did not fully comprehend) it was swept under the rug & made to sound like my daughter was taking offense to something being said to a class in general & not specifically to her by this one student. But the last straw was that apparently there was a child in her school (in 7th grade same as my daughter) who had made a hit list of people he admitted he didnt like & the purpose of this list was a list of people he wanted to kill. :-S OF COURSE the school didn't want to say ANYTHING to ANYONE & tried thier best to sweep it under the rug but one parent who knew what had gone on contacted the news station & let loose yesterday... The school had done nothing to the boy except talk to his parents & send him BACK TO CLASS. Of course now today I was told 2 seperate & different stories by the same principal at the elementary school ( the incident happened at the Middle school though) so I know she was simply telling me what she was told to tell the parents. My solution was to take her out of that school completely & when I called everyone I knew apparently word spread & all day today there were parents at the school pulling thier kids out of this school. The note they sent home today said the incident happened last Thursday (Tho I saw the police there yesterday) & supposedly NOW we are being told that this boy was suspended yesterday but yet this morning I was told the schools did not find it issue enough to do anything & if they had they would have had emergency meetings etc..... funny how schools tell you what they want you to know... Guest guest
Dori, How are you doing today? Have you gotten any response from the school? I would hope they'd apologize to you anyway. If I had a child that had the issues your daughter did, I would have probably have marched up to that school and done things I would have regretted later. Bravo for your calm and cool (and correct) response to a ridiculous situation. Has the news followed up? You know, you may be able to write to some kind of political official....I hope this school will have to pay for what they've done. You are very welcome for the response. I'll say it again....asking for help is the best way to get it Please let us know how you and your daughter are doing. Hugs to you both. Guest guest
Hello Dori, My Opinion, you did the right thing!!! If You don't stand up for your childs rights, than who will??? YOu are responsible and you are the one that the child counts on to protect her, as her Mother, you did nothing wrong!!! CONGRAT'S to you for being Strong and sticking up for your Daughter and not letting the system beat you down!!! ((( SUPPORTING HUGS ))) Helen Dear group, hey all I'm sorry I have to vent a little because I find myself facing something I have never had to tackle before & I need to have someone tell me the decisions I made today were ok & GOD I'm scared to go on THIS adventure... ok here goes...I'm sure most of you know the reason I joined this group is because of my daughter who has Aspergers Syndrome (which is a form of Autism) I have just yanked my daughter out of public school to begin homeschooling due to bullies in school before & her inability to cope with that. Guest guest
, Oh yes the news has been all over this (naturally) & the school is now being investigated by the police dept as to WHY did they wait a week to notify the police. Needless to say they are NOT happy. Thankfully I learned about this in th evening so I had time to cool down & think things through logically before I went to the school because I was ready for blood when I found out lol. Today we kind of worked towards finding out where she was with Math & science. I think tomorrow we will go to the library & try to find the home schooling books they have there.I am scared to death to do this though lol. I know it sounds silly but to face this as a reality is kind of scary. I keep asking what if I do something the wrong way? What if I mess up. lol I know it sounds silly but I only want whats best for our daughter & obviously she wasnt getting the best frm the school. The news called me today on the fact that I had pulled her out of school but I wasn't here (had to go pay the bills) & I missed thier call so tomorrow I need to contact them back I guess.*sigh* lol I guess fate just didn't think I had enough on my plate yet lmao. I just have to keep reminding myself that God never gives us more than we can handle though it may seem like it at times we always pull through.
