The only thing I " v read about Vit C is that it can accelerate macular

degeneration of eyes.

Regards .

***************

This sounds very doubtful to me. Research says that such

chronic degenerative conditions are caused by

oxidative damage/free radical action, much of it due to accumulation of

metals like mercury or copper in the cornea or macula, etc. Being an

antioxidant, C should counter this to some degree. I have research on

eye conditions since I was told by 2 Opthamologists that I had Fuchs

Disease, a similar degenerative condition that affects the cornea, and

would likely go blind. But after research indicating mercury likely

involved, mercury and copper accumulate in the endothelial cells of the

cornea, etc. where oxidative damage causes clouding and hardening of the

cornea, or etc., I got my amalgams replaced, took lots of things

like Vit C, and my eyes rather than going blind have improved so

much that when I lost my glasses I didn't bother to replace them. Drive

without glasses for the first time in 30 years.(though vision not

perfect). Metals are involved with conditions like iritis, cataracts,

Fuch's, macula degeneration, etc. Examining the eyes is one of the

easiest ways to check for mercury toxicity.

There was a new study just completed a few weeks ago that links high doses of

ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to the growth of cancerous tumors. I'll see if I

can find the website.

Dear Bernie,

When you say " examining the eyes is one of the easiest ways to check for

mercury toxicity " , what do you mean? What exactly would you see looking at

the eyes of someone mercury toxic, or is it an experiential measurement?

Mercurialentis is the text book term for the first sign on mercury

poisoning in the anterior lense, but it is never diagnosed, I've asked

about this and was told there were many conditions such as treating

diabetes. My answers came from the assistant, the doctor didn't want to

talk to me about it.

Perhaps there is a conflict on interest because many of the eye drops

used contain mercury. I've had serious reactions, dizzy, faint and

having to sleep it off, I thought I could get some help on determining

mercury poisoning, before that my eyes were slow to focus with weak

muscles but my vision was perfect 20/20. I never recovered from the

drops and no longer have 20/20 vision.

I realized this thread turned from vitamin C in my last reply.

Phosphatase is where ethyls and methyls turn the ion of bone, skin and

teeth to negative and a five sided protein cell is produced. Ascorbic

acid reverses this. H202 is neutral. I prefer natures balanced

solutions for organic/energy.

Andy,

This C is from Allergy Research Group; it's hypoallergenic, corn free, made

from BEET. It also has calcium, potassium, & magnesium carbonate. He already

separately gets cal/mag & his magnesium is mag taurate which doesn't seem to

aggravate his bowels. Yet I've read some others might; could it be that? He

is sensitive, which is why we went with mag taurate. If so, is there a

hypoallergenic, corn free buffered " C " powder without the other ingredients I

could try for him? (no chewables, have to be able to dissolve it & get into a

dropper to mouth).

Thanks,

Michele

Yes, & this is the only C he's getting! My other son was getting just as

much, yet no problems with bowels...

Thanks,

People tolerate very large amounts of buffered C, and fair amounts of

acid form C. This kind of thing suggests allergy to something IN the

C - e. g. corn allergy, as most commercial C is from corn. If it is

Buffered Mineral Ascorbates, from Palm tree source are excellent.

No corn, and no bowel problem, plus incredible donor of minerals.

People tolerate very large amounts of buffered C, and fair amounts of

acid form C. This kind of thing suggests allergy to something IN the

C - e. g. corn allergy, as most commercial C is from corn. If it is

from something else, it will say.

Too much magnesium may also contribute to loose bowels

I've been giving my autistic son Vit C due to a cold the past few days

(but

he should have it regularly anyway). I've been using a buffered Vit C

Powder

by Allergy Research Group. (1/2 T = 900 mg C). It also includes

calcium/magnesium & potassium. He gets calcium besides this & magnesium

taurate. I had given him 1/4t 1x/day for a few days. He developed

increasingly bad diahrea. It was recommended I lower to 1/8t or less

3-4x/day

instead. He's had 3 dosages like that today & horrible diahrea again. Is

he

still getting too much? What is the best amount of C he should have

(8yrs old

& 50lbs)? Or is it just a matter of cutting back until the diahrea

stops? He

has very sensitive bowels so I'm concerned about him tolerating C much

at all.

THanks again,

Because magnesium causes diarrhea at high doses, I would find a

vitamin C that contains only vitamin C, see if that helps.

It does not occur naturally in the body but is considered an essential

mineral. Dr. G has told me several times that he's against what he calls

" high dose " magnesium because he believes it could be toxic like other metals

can be. I got the impression from him that the RDA dose of magnesium isn't a

problem. I wouldn't think the little bit of magnesium that is in a vitamin C

supplement you're giving at such a low dose would be a problem. Did he know

what the exact dose of magnesium would be? It's good to share that info when

you're asking about supplements because I've found he tends to assume you're

using a high-dose if you just ask about it in general.

On the Vit C you mentioned, the only thing I'd want to be careful of is the

chloraphyl since it is a blood cleanser. That can be good in some cases but

not so good if a kid is toxic since it could loosen up some stuff and shift

it around, depositing it in some places you may not want. I'd just watch for

any negative reactions. Also, Dr. G tends to like to stick with more

pharmaceutical grade things since he feels the food-based supplements, which

the one you listed would fall under, tend to have a greater possibility for a

negative reaction (more stuff to react to).

The NOW brand has a good C-complex that seems pretty pure. It's the

ascorbate form. We've also used Twinlab's Allergy C which is made from Sago

Palm and is a nice buffered form. It does have some Calcium and Magnesium

Carbonate but at the low dose you'd be using it would be neglible.

Also, in case you are not aware of this, it is best to spread water-soluable

vitamins like Vit C throughout the day since the body eliminates it within a

few hours so perhaps giving three doses of 50mg might be best.

If Dr. G. said no magnesium, than that rules out Epsom salt baths. I was

wondering about that so good to know. Thanks, ette.

vitamin C

I want to start giving my son a daily dose of Vitamin C daily as

prevention for colds, coughs, etc. Dr. G. has agreed 150 mg. He said

it has to be pure but he didn't recommend any brand. Does anyone know

of a brand that he does recommend.

I picked up one called NuBears. It has the following

ingredients:Ascorbic Acid, Calcium ascorbate, citrus bioflavonoids,

quercetin complex, Rutin, Hesperidin Complex. In a base of orange,

acerola, parsley, watercress, alfalfa, and chlorophyll. The bottle says

contains no preservatives, artificial colours, starch, wheat, milk,

corn, soya, yeast and egg. Anyone know if this is okay?

I also have a buffered vitamin C powder that has ascorbic acid, calcium,

and magnesium. I got it from my naturopath who said it was very pure,

but Dr. G. said definitely no magnesium because it is a heavy metal. I

thought magnesium was something that occurred naturally in the body.

Anybody know why he's so against it?

Joana,

A belated happy birthday. Glad you are getting better and better as

you age.

The Vitamin C is all I am taking now (8-10,000 mg). I am considering

adding Vit. E especially after Gretchen's comments. I hate taking

pills of any kind but want to feel and do the best I can, and if that

is what it takes.
