I got the book for Christmas(one of my Fav gifts!)Well as I was looking through all the recipes I noticed that some of the pasta recipes call for just regular pastaa. I hate to always cook something different for my family and personally I don't think one serving of regular pasta every now and then is going to make or break the program. I LOVE his new cookbook, especially the recipes that show pictures of the brands (thought that was really helpful). I've already made several things and they've all been yummy! But I guess it couldnt hurt once in awhile. I plan on on making a meal plan for 2 weeks and alternate weeks eating them for 4 weeks then re-do a menu for another 4 weeks, etc. I am starting this on MOnday! Less planning and cooking! In BFL Bill makes quite a case for whole grain bread, so logically that should extend to the pasta as well! There is an issue with rice too...it should also be brown rice, not white. Guest guest Posted January 1, 2004 Report Share Posted January 1, 2004 Well actually Bill is right in having regular pasta in his book and everyone else kind of has the wrong idea about what is 'authorized' (this is Eating For Life not for a 12week diet btw):-) From a link all about pasta: http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/foods_view/1,1523,82,00.html " Whole wheat pasta: Made from whole wheat flour or whole wheat durum flour, this pasta is not significantly higher in vitamins and minerals than semolina pasta because semolina pasta is almost always enriched with B vitamins and iron. However, whole wheat pasta is higher in dietary fiber and has a distinctive robust taste. " So basically all you are getting in whole wheat pasta is a bit more fiber (which is good) but regular pasta is NOT 'stripped down' in any way shape or form.
