Guest guest
Here is something to ponder. I have a tape of CSPAN in which Dr. Baskins of Baylor College reviews mercury poisoning in regards to syphilis. (I am also just starting to read a book called Pox on this very topic.) Doctors in the past used mercury to treat syphilis but the patients would go berserck - as Dr. Baskins pointed out - the patients who were suffering from the syphilis had signs of severe mercury poisoning. These patients regressed further due to the treatment. He used this example to explain what was happening in today's children. I would also guess that a person's tolerance level would be tested this way; therefore, some patients would be effected very quickly on a small amount of mercury while others would take a whole bunch before showing signs. I like to equate to college drinking.. some can handle only a little alcohol while others can drink more of it before showing signs. To quote you: My question is how is a parent to know if their child is truly autistic or mercury poisoned unless they try chelation and things. This is the most fundamental question raised by you. For some of us, autistic = toxicity issue tied to mercury. For others autistic = is purely genetic condition. And for some, autism = is both a toxicty issue and genetic predisposition. There are signs that point to toxicity issues and allergies that might suggest someone is mercury poisoned before chelation it tried. Dr. Mumper did an excellent job of explaining some of these things at the NAA conference and can be described in detail in books like Children with Starving Brains. Something else to ponder: some doctors are putting terms together or wanting to get rid of terms because of labeling confusion. See Dr. Rimland's discussion on his site about PDD, PDD-NOS, and autism terms. What I would like to know, do researchers think autism and adhd are the same thing? I know my son's doctor does.
