Guest guest
Hi , You wrote: The volunteers stayed in 'costume' for hours (while watching movies, going out for a smoke, playing pool or ping pong...) At the end of the program, we asked them what it felt like to be a person in this position. Only one person, who had crutches, quit after an hour. Your post brought to mind a story Dr. Hat told me awhile back (mabye I already shared it?) about how he worked with a group of interns who he was teaching about OCD. To help them understand what it was like to suffer from OCD, he asked them each to take a shower the next morning, soap up, shampoo their hair, and then get out without rinsing. He asked them to wait 24 hours before rinsing. Only one made it through the day. He suggested that I try something similar (ie. going to bed w/soap on my hands one night) to help me re-find my compassion when I was really losing it with Kelsey. I never actually did, but he made an important point! Take care, in San Diego
