Guest guest
<<NetDad, This brought tears to my eyes!! I am so happy for you and your family. To hear him say: " I love Daddy " must have caused you to have a meltdown!!! hugs, wendy in canada>> , Because of your empathy, I thought you should be rewarded with the whole story. Here it is. A Big Gift from NetChild last night: -------------------------------------------------- When forbidden to do some inappropriate behavior like banging stuff, my expressive-language-delayed 5 yo feels embarrased, and yet wants to continue to engage in his bad " habit " , so he comes to me and says, " Daddy! " ... " Daddy! " He does this because he knows he is not supposed to do it, and yet cannot stop himself from wanting it, so he tempers his request by not asking for the object explicitly. Last night was no different when I took a block he was banging from him as we were sitting at the dinner table. He came to me and said " Daddy! " a couple of times to try to get it back. I wouldn't give it to him. He then suddenly said, " I Love Daddy " . Clear as a bell! My wife was there with us. She turned to me, and asked if I heard it. Did I hear it?! Our days are spent anxiously watching his mouth. This is a real major achievement for us. It is not like verbalizing a word for some concrete object like " Water " , even which would have been celebrated greatly a couple of years ago. My little boy is beginning to use a difficult concept such as " Love " , a word even great poets and philosophers through the ages had difficulty defining. NetDad ---------------- NetDad, dad to 2 others and NetChild, 5 yo, mainly-expressive language delay, indications of delayed myelin from MRI, Inattentive, Obssessive/compulsive/impulsive/hyperactive, however great swimmer, biker and overall great athlete with amazing grace, agility and sense of balance. Guest guest
Dear NetDad~ I read your post over and over again. I was deeply moved by your son's expression to you. To know your child loves you is a blessing...to hear it from their little mouths is something that goes straight to your heart. You sound like awesome loving parents, who raise their children like the gifts they are. Thank you for sharing, it reminded me of 29:11. And I have lots of hope again.
