Guest guest
Hi, I used to think that my 8 yr. old daughter was painfully shy (before OCD dx) but to see her now, I am so proud of her. She never liked to talk to anyone or stand near anyone. That was just too close for comfort. She has been on 37.5 mg of Zoloft for a few months now. Yesterday when I picked her up at Sunday school she got mad at me because she said I never let her do a reading during Mass. (I never let her?) Figures she blames me, but that's OK because I can't believe she actually wants to stand in front of 300+ people and read. It would have NEVER happened 6 months ago. She also went on an overnight girl scout trip to the NY State Museum and took off with her friends like a shot. She wasn't wondering where I was the whole time or that it wasn't safe to be alone in a big place like that. I saw her actually grab hold of another girls hand. She wiped her hands on her pants when she let go but I couldn't believe she is the one who initiated it. I only write to tell you because I don't think any of my friends understand the elation I feel when I see her take another step toward a normal childhood. It has been so hard for her. A real adventurer with an excellent attitude—rock climbing with all the girls, navigating a 1/4 mile dark underground cave (when other girls balked!), etc. Perhaps even more notable (and confusing?) was her strong sociability with all the other kids!!! He said he noted all weekend long instances of her doing all kinds of pro-social behaviors and getting lots of positive feedback from the girls (who are an extremely sweet bunch.) Now if I could just transplant them to her class, where we have the opposite problem. >>
