Guest guest
Hi Vivian, and all the Newbies! The Obsessive-Compulsive Foundations Annual Conference is to be held July 19 - 21/01 in Denver, Colorado. So far there is no information on the exact location of the conference - that I know of, anyway!! The conference used to be 2 days, last year is was 3 and next year 4 days!! There is so much to learn and do that every moment is precious!! There is such a wonderful atmosphere of sharing that it is definatly worth the trip!! The OCF tends to book more expensive locations for the conferences, but always within an area where there are lots of other choices of accomodations. Scholarships were available last year, and I would imagine that there will some this year too. see you!! wendy in canada (KathyH, Jule, Gail, Jackie and myself led the parents suppport group last year) ================================================================ > Would someone kindly e-mail me the date of the next conf.? I have >just spent the last hour going through old posts to no avial.! (It >was good reading though!) Lance is making out his vacation request >and he needs that date SOON! Thanks, Vivian in wa.st. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. There are several " extended stay " places too that have a weekly rate that is pretty good, and you get a kitchen/living room area (a plus with kids). I don't know yet what hotel the conference is being held at, but as soon as I find out, I will scout out the options. Watch this space! Jay in Denver, Colorado Also, I would like to put out some information on tourist type activities, museums, zoos, aquarium, shopping, etc. and I will do that as time gets closer. If anyone has a particular activity they are interested in knowing about, ask me. I am a veritable walking encyclopedia for the Denver Tourist Bureau. Hehe. And oh yeah, don't forget the Coors Brewery Tour.
Guest guest
-Is this conference mainly for parents or do you all bring your children? How much does it cost to attend. Guest guest
HI Jay, Thanks for offering your services as our Denver tour guide! I for one would like to take a walking tour of LoDo. I worked there eight years ago, but I know that the area has really exploded since then. We used to hang out after work at one of the first micro-breweries in the area, but its name escapes me now. Take care, Lesli (still a Coloradoan at heart)
Guest guest
Hi Jay: Thanks so much for the offer of help. Have you considered also joining the DC (da conference) list where such information would also be much appreciated? Looking forward to Denver in 2001! Aloha, Kathy (H) kathyh@... Guest guest
Hi: We always bring Steve and, if school schedules permit, his brother, Mark, who does not have OCD. That way we make a family trip out of it. Probably we will visit some relatives on the West Coast too. There are some sessions for kids and I have heard that the OCF plans to focus more on kids' activities in 2001. We found it very helpful for Steve to meet other kids with OCD, it made him feel much less " weird " . Taking OCD out of the closet at the conference can be a very freeing experience for our kids. Many of the adults with OCD reach out so warmly to our kids and encourage them. IT is also very helpful for parents to see adults with OCD who are so bravely dealing with the disorder and striving to life the best life possible. Hope to see you there! Take care, aloha, Kathy (H) kathyh@... P.S. I am not sure what the registration fee will be. It is not very expensive compared to similar conferences I have attended and they do offer scholarships. You can probably email the OCF via their website and get some indication of their pricing for 2001. K. That would be ideal, if it's not too expensive. I would love to come for a whole week since I've never been to Colorado. And Ava would like that too. Dana in NC >> Its very possible, Dana. There are several very nice extended stay hotels with weekly rates that are more like mini-apartments than hotel rooms. As soon as I know where the conference is being held (what hotel) I will scout out the reasonable alternatives for lodging and let you and the rest of the list know. There are lots of things to see and do here, and I think you will be happy you chose to stay a little longer. The conference location choosers made a very good choice, but that's just my opinion. LoDo has certainly grown and expanded, but its only one of the many interesting sites we have here. There are probably a dozen microbreweries in the lower downtown area now, but i think one of the first ones was the Wynkoop Brewery. There are also the Champion, Rock Bottom, and a few others I can't remember the names of. My favourite is the Wynkoop's Railyard Ale. Tasty!
