Guest guest
Does anyone know if the absorption of birth control decreases after surgery and if what percentage? I’ve worked with bariatric surgery for 3 ½ years and we emphasize using 2 forms of birth control after surgery for 18 months to 2 years. I had a patient in my initial education class today who was told my her PCP that birth control pills are no longer absorbed after surgery b/c the surgeon will bypass the absorption site. I think I would have a lot more post-op pregnant women the first year if this is true b/c I know my patients are not using 2 forms of birth control. If someone has any literature or recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.
