Officer Lance K. Gordon, Ph.D., has been appointed to the National Vaccine

Advisory Committee (NVAC). NVAC advises and makes recommendations to the

Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) on issues related to preventing

representing vaccine manufacturers, physicians, parents, and state and local

health agencies. Members are appointed to four-year terms by the Director of

the National Vaccine Program Office, a part of the DHHS, in consultation with

the National Academy of Sciences following a formal nominations process.The NVAC has made recommendations on a variety of immunization issues,

ranging from strengthening the supply of routinely recommended vaccines in the

United States to streamlining regulatory processes, liability issues, and

enhancing collaboration among key stakeholders. Last year as the influenza

vaccine crisis was emerging, NVAC recommended dropping price caps on vaccines

for children, improving vaccine coverage by insurers, and seeking greater

harmonization in domestic and foreign vaccine approval requirements to quickly
