Guest guest
Have you seen used Vitamix juicers on eBay? Normally, new costs over $400., but 2 months ago I got one (1975-1980) for $82.00. It is wonderful - has a juice spigot, a nice wide opening, even makes bread, grinds grain and cooks soup while it blends. Vitamix has all parts available. Also great for smoothies - grinding strawberry and blueberry seeds to perfect smoothie consistency. Check it out. Barbara creativeplane1@... What is a hand crank juicer that actually works? i borrowed a juicer from a friend and it wasn't efficient at all (leaky, inconsistant, and hard to adjust). Before I buy one online I'd like to know that it will work. Any brand recommendations?

Guest guest
I use my Vita Mix 5 or 10 times a day, no kidding. I just had watercress & portabella soup. Red miso. Part of a garlic clove. Every now and then I eat salmon, though I'm mostly 100% vegan. Just sear the piece of fish, remove the skin. Let the fish cook in the Vita Mix in the soup. I use a digital thermometer and bring it to around 180 for fish. Delicious and it preserves the oil better. I'm sorry I waited so long to break down and buy this. I use and use it and use it. The Vita Mix really does what the claim, including a huge boost to your health. Don't forget to try sprouts & water in the Vita Mix, either (for a non-sweetened veggie version of a lemon/lime beverage). Z STAR MANUAL JUICER works really well. I usually have juice on an empty stomach in the morning. Usually salad greens (so many to choose from, don't forget fresh cukes and yellow squash or orange, onions, watercress, etc., sprin mix is even delicious) and part of an apple. Put ANYTHING YOU WANT and juice it up. You do it on an empty stomach so it doesn't sit in your stomach " stewing " in digestive acids, etc. The stomach will send it through. W'nerful. That Z STAR juicer is a blessing ! It's all plastic, no aluminum to get in the food. It comes apart and goes together like a charm. You don't have to worry -- it really works on nearly anything BUT do be CAREFUL with anything unusually HARD -- like big pieces of fresh carrots and fresh, uncooked beets etc. It's made for food, not for rocks. Hard food does not juice into the cone fixture and make juice very easily in the first place. You probably have to see that piece to understand what I'm saying. Apparently all screw juicers work this way. If you try to FORCE it through by turning the crank when it's really resisting -- you'll hear a crack and some of the pieces can crack. They are mostly around $3.00 or so for parts (look on the site for the " parts " listing for your Z STAR MANUAL JUICER if you want) if you ever need replacing or if want to have an extra this or that. If you have it set up for periodic use all day, you don't have to constantly reclean the whole thing, you can snap in a new cone or what have you. None of the parts is damage by soaking for a good while, I found. ALSO -- if you do forget and force it -- the company WILL replace the parts involved at NO CHARGE under the warranty. Which is nice. I thought my beets were gently cooked and soft, but I made the mistake anyway. I'm guessing that a lot of people " forget " about carrots and beets, etc. -- your juicer shouldn't crack, it's sturdy -- nice looking, thick plastic. Wheat grass can be tough if bunched up, too -- but my health place only got to selling this in the past few days -- I didn't think it would bunch up coming out, but it did, no biggie, I'm still learning the best thing to do with home wheat grass juice. Anyhow, I would HIGHLY recommed the Z STAR to anyone. Plus the company reps on the phone are very good. You might order in a few extra brushes right away -- they are especially well designed for all the areas to clean. They are around a $1.80 or something, not expensive. It cleans easy. After you get used to it, it's almost a " fun job " cleaning it off. Yummy stuff comes of it, maybe that's part of it. All the surfaces are designed really well. It goes together and comes apart really easy. Let us know how you like it if you do decide on the Z STAR MANUAL. One reason for my getting was (and they do tell you this in the info for the Vita Mix) -- DON'T add GINGER in the Vita Mix -- juice it in the juicer and add the juice -- that vegetable (ginger) is the ONE THING that is TOO TOUGH for the Vita Mix blades -- it will dull your blades if you add straight, fresh ginger. Jerry ps -- CONGRATS on finding a Vita Mix that hasn't been " snapped up " by the guy who reconditions Vita Mixes for a livelihood and resells. I tried and tried eBay. Never won the auction for a Vita Mix -- but that's OK by me, cause I love the new one. You have to wait for red and that's what my kitchen is. But well worth the wait. Guest guest
Hi Jerry: That soup recipe sounds sublime - would you share, please? I was lucky enough to get the Vitamix from a private party, who included the original 1978 Hammacher & ...receipt along with the gently loved recipe book. I " contacted the seller " (eBay lists this on the item description page) prior to bidding to confirm the authenticity and ownership. It was a very positive experience. And, I'll try your sprouts beverage - sounds intriguing. What kinds seem to best mimic the lemon/lime flavor that you've concocted? I hope you'll share that, too.Thank you! Cheers, Barbara Jerry <Jertoons@...> wrote: I use my Vita Mix 5 or 10 times a day, no kidding. I just had watercress & portabella soup. Red miso. Part of a garlic clove. Guest guest
> > http://www.lehmans.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp? itemID=4811 & itemType=PRODUCT & RS=1 & keyword=juicer > > Try the above link. It's where I purchased mine, and I like it very much. That looks really nice. I like the fact that it's not aluminum, too, but coated. I can buy it at a sort of juice bar here in Pennsylvania -- but when they do your " shot " there's grass already in their cranker sitting from the last customer. It could have been there for a while some days and often you can taste the aluminium in it. Aluminium has been implicated in nerve/Alzheimer's, so I tend to avoid it when I can. Thx for the link. Have it bookmarked. Incidentally, this might be off subject -- one think I've been looking for is a machine especially made to get the blackberry flesh (raspberries) without getting the seeds. The way I do it now is in the blender, then strain. But it's hard to find a strainer with the right sized holes and the pulp has to be pressed through the holes if they're small enough to stop the seeds. It's a bit time consuming and not easy to get all it all through the strainer. Adding water helps, but not always. We get an excellent brand of frozen blackberries in the grocery store here in Pennsylvania. (Giant Supermarkets) I re-freeze it right away, flat on a cookie tray in a large plastic zip loc bag. Then I can add it to chocolate milk or any blender concoction by breaking off a piece like peanut brittle. I see there's a place in Oregon/Washington that has freeze dried fruits, also good to add to a fruitie. You can throw in a coupla sprouts, just for a nutritional boost. Swanson's vitamins has an interesting mix of DRIED SPROUTS in a cap -- but it doesn't say if they use filtered water or chlorine in the preparation of the supplement. A variety of sprouts are in it, some you wouldn't expect to grow very much at home. Keep smiling, Jerry
Guest guest
- thanks for the link. Did you buy the Chop-Rite American made juicer or the sgnificantly less expensive Czech Republic made juicer? > I can't afford an electric wheatgrass juicer right now but want to drink a large amount of > juice.
