Guest guest
I make a mixture of two day old sprouts out of black oil sunflower seeds, barley, and peas to feed to my goats. I make them in quantity and dry them in a dehydrator for convenience. Our iguana likes 8 day old sunflower sprouts all green and leafed out. The dogs will eat any leafy sprout I toss to them. Guest guest
My dogs are on an all raw meaty bone diet, Tom Lonsdale style. They do well. Guest guest
Hello Kathy--I run a list for rawfeeding Beardies and another for dogs with EPI ( exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) many of my US buddies belong to raw food co-ops for their dogs but since I have been feeding raw for 10 years --before it was as popular as it is the past few years --I just do it all myself --as I like to be assured that I always have enough -- I can feed four dogs just fine and at about the same price as * premium* kibble -- I often get stuff free when I tell the butcher or farmer that I am the granddaughter of a ish butcher . I also do not feed my dogs any grains in their meals although they have been known to scavenge human food with grain. We have a pet shop here that sells ONLY raw grain free diets for dogs. My philosophy is that the ingredients in kibble are better suited as food for humans --not dogs and cats -- Humans are the only species on the planet who cook food and their digestive system is far more suited to the high grain and high carb content of most kibble,, Dogs need very little carb, in fact carbohydrate is not an essential component of the canine diet -- and cats are obligate carnivores. What Dr Price outlines in his book can be applied tenfold to the diet of dogs and cats. I like hunting and gathering and being the quality control for my dogs food --I buy mainly local and seasonal -- free range chicken bits , organic or free range eggs, beef heart , tongue marrow bones all the stuff - mutton and beef cut offs -- --the lamb pluck ( hearts, liver kidneys and lungs) all deemed unsuitable for westernised humans to eat --although as a ish child I ate them all -- tripe, jellied ox tongue , oxtails - kidneys, liver, blood pudding - rabbit, hare and pigeon pie -- I we even fought over the Christmas chicken neck after it was removed from the soup --it was considered a treat - Dog Veggies and herbs -- I usually get off the bruised and bashed counter--so pay very little for them --and I can get fish scraps at the fishmongers for pennies a pound. I have a freezer that is exclusively for dog food . The Scots are a frugal lot. One of the things I do splurge on for the dogs is green prairie-grass fed cow tripe that comes from Saskatoon and I also use a good grade Fish oil-- CLO in winter -- I have two 11 year young Beardies plus Mom Cora Bulldog & and Logan her son who is four--we rarely see the vet --usually only for titers or our mandatory 3 year rabies shots and blood panels every two years --I also just do blood tests for heartworms --no meds fro anything. I try not to put any chemicals on or in my dogs.and I spend far less on vet bills than many of my friends --many whose dogs come down with all the strange allergies and digestive problems that seem to be legacy of domestication --bad breeding coupled with a steady diet of industrialised dry rations. .. English Bulldogs are infamous for health problems =--especially of the skin but my two are fine. Over the past 10 years I have collected nearly fifty books about the natural raw diet and holistic health for dogs-- - I am of the Dr Tom Lonsdale Raw Meaty Bones school / I also attended a three day seminar with -Dr Ian Billinghurst --he has helped me considerably .
