HI Nikki:

Thanks for your update on Kelsey and . They are so lucky to have

you as their mom and you certainly are doing a lot of doctor appointments

right now!

It certainly sounds like you are on the trail of the answer for Kelsey and

hopefully this will be something that maturity will make less severe.

is making such strides with her CBT! Please tell her how impressed

I am at her achievements.

I hope you are having some time for yourself, or will do soon. Take care,

aloha, Kathy (H)

Hey Jule! Just wanted to let you know that they have Kelsey on Prevacid

1xdaily and Reglan 4xdaily. It seems to be helping but not completley. Thanks

for your input and your thoughts. Take care! Nikki

Hi Kathy! Your reply is interesting to me as Kelsey has throw up worries as

well and for about 3yrs has been what we call " puke phoabic " . I have

wondered at times about her and ocd as she is very perfectionistic worries

alot etc. But no compulsions and really different from my ocd'er.

Time will tell, I'm watching her and actually use E & RP if an extreme worry

comes up. It has made this situation very hard as her discomfort is almost

all the time and the doc said she is refluxing alot per the upper gi today.

So its hard to tell if how she is feeling all the time and the way she is

puke phoabic makes the insecurities worse like being at school. I could kind

of understand that since this is her first time at school after being home

with me for almost 6yrs and then feeling sick all the time. She says if her

stomach did not hurt that she would still miss me but would be ok about

school. She says the main reason she cries is because she feels sick. Did

they determine what is the cause of your daughters. I am concerned because of

the severity of this with my daughter and she has had this since infancy now

that I look back they treated her back as an infant and she started refusing

certain foods like milk at 1yr old, orange juice and tomato sauce at 4yrs

old. and about months ago she started wanting to eat every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs but

yet lost weight and has not grown in 9months. Thanks for your input and for

listening. Nikki in O'town

Nikki:

I applaud you for being so persistent with the doc. They are always supposed to

rule out a physical cause before they move on to the psychosomatic one. Not all

docs will do that without prodding. They tend to view women in general and

mom's in particular as hysterics. You were very right to be concerned -- I hope

you get results from the blood work soon. I have reflux myself and take

Prilosec, which is specifically for treatment of GERD (the fancy name for it).

Zantac and Tagamet are for ulcers -- I found Prilosec much more effective for

reflux. However, I am not sure if it is available in liquid form or in a low

enough dose for children as it is a capsule. You might want to ask about it.

Be sure to keep us posted. You're in my thoughts.

Hi Nikki! Is O'town cooling off yet? there is a cool breeze here and the

leaves are starting to turn! Yikes!

I am relieved to hear that Kelsey's 'complaints' are being attended to -

and taken seriously. One more example of how parents must advocate for their

kids, eh? Please keep us posted on how she does.

Great for ! Knowing how to take charge and 'boss back' those nasty

thoughts is sooo empowering! You have another reason to be proud of her!

What a great 'turtle' she is! :o)

keep up the good work! wendy in canada wb4@...

Hi Nikki,

I wrote a response to your question about my involvement in the charter school

but I haven't been able to send it - it keeps coming back to me saying the

address is wrong. I've been waiting for you to post again so I could verify

your address. I tried again today and it came back again. So why don't you

email me off -list and I'll post what I wrote using the reply button.

Kel (6) has this dx as well. We found out a couple of years ago, shortly

before OCD started. Her father has hx of gerd since childhood, controlled

only these past couple of years with Prilosec. Kel gets decent relief from

Tums. This problem has muddied the waters when it comes to suspect " tummy

aches " and throw-up feelings/worries.
